    Safety

Guys. I think we got safety covered.

Nothing gives a person confidence like "You'll shoot your eye out!!"

I realize that safety is the most important thing. But after that what can we advise to keep them in the game.

Anybody have some tips on getting from point A to point B? Getting the drop on the other team? Moving without being noticed?

    Come on...

By the way. If we can put something decent together I will pdf it and keep it available to the AO community.

one pretty simple woodsball technique (if you can even call it that) is just having 2 people go together, and have one give cover while the other moves.

Ex. Player A and Player B are at 2 trees next to eachother. There are 2 rows of trees in front of them and a player on the other team in back.

A shoots, B moves to next tree
B shoots, A moves to tree next to B
      lather, rinse, and repeat

      really simple but whatever

      and maybe vocabulary

      -marker
      -hopper
      -barrel
      -barrel bag
      etc...

How about some basics about paint?

paintballs can't be used if they get wet

Dont leave paint in the sun

Close your bag a paint when you dont need it.

Dont pick paint off the ground.

if you want a good reference for why to keep your goggles on....get an egg...stand back 10-15 feet...shoot the egg Then they get the idea of what will happen to your eye

          works every time.

Bring water. Paintball makes me thirsty and I don't like being in the middle of the woods with nothing to drink. Sometimes little things outside the game can make the game itself much more enjoyable.

Also bring rags. Microfiber cloths work so well to clean off masks.

1- I like to explain to them that there should always be a barrier between the paintball and your eyes...AT LEAST a barrel blocking device on the gun, or your mask on. There should NEVER be a clear path from the paintball to your eye.

2- Don't all bunch up behind one bunker.

3- Don't pop out from the same spot twice.

4- Be sneaky, don't give away your position too soon.

5- Pretend you're wearing blaze orange and move like it, don't count on camo. (see 4)

6- Wait until you see the whites of their eyes before shooting. (see 4)

7- Communicate with your teammates. Ask for cover while moving up.

8- Dead men don't talk, except to say "I'm Out!" If someone from the other team sneaks around behind you and shoots you, yelling I'm Out! that's the only thing you can do to alert your teammates. If you hear a teammate yelling I'm Out! and he's right behind you, guess what?

                    9- Don't get tunnel vision. (see 8)

Are you kidding me... you can tell someone all that "how to play" stuff but a new player is going to forget that as soon as the countdown to GO starts...

                          Safety... Safety... Safety...

i used to do safety and how to use rental equipment orientations ... really that's all they need to have a good time.

If it's not safe and their they don't know how to use their equipment.... they won't have fun.

and seriously... if the group is large enough ... i fully recommend a private party ...

Yes I am kidding you. This whole thread is just a joke. Happy Halloween.

I agree and disagree with you all at the same time. I plan on giving this information to the kids a few days to a week in advance. Even if just a little sinks in it will help. At least it will give them a feeling for what is going to happen. Hell even if all they get out of this is to keep there mask on at all times then I think it has served its purpose.

I updated the 3rd post with what has been offered so far. Lets keep it coming.

If they know there is only 1 opponent, you don't have to run all the way to the next bunker/tree. Just move sideways so it is between you and the opponent then stroll up easy style since you now have cover.

                              Like the interposition in chess.

We actually have a game that we play to teach this. It's called "Stop and GO!" based on "red light green light" and uses an airhorn.

The horn blows and you have to move or you're out.
The horn blows again and you have to stop or you're out.

It's a lot of fun and gets people used to not just moving, but planning their next few move out.
