    good info on the wiki

    more basic basic stuff

this lays out the rules of the games pretty good

not all of this is good advice but... a few are good pointers

    ------------
yes i'm too lazy to think and type out something... but here's my short

    -goggles on
-understand the objective of the game
    -scan left to right
-shoot , you cant tag someone if you don't shoot at them

if your not having fun talk to the ref, head ref, the guy at the counter, the person's in charge etc and tell them why... most reputabale fields will do their best to fix the situation. If you don't tell someone your having a lousy time they can't correct the situation for others who may feel the same.

^i used to say something similar... usually a little more comical at the end of orientation to lighten the mood after the serious safety stuff...

3rd post has been updated again.

Right now I am just sticking the info there. I will go through it and better organize it later.

Thanks for all the info so far.

I have to disagree with you here especially considering there are going to a lot of first time players and someone will pull their mask off to get a drink or to clean the lenses of their mask.

That is an interesting and very valid point. Thanks.

Good topic. Im currently putting together something for a "new player clinic" at the field that i hope to do at the beginning of next season. Good stuff in here.

As has been mentioned numerous times before, emphasize safety! I'm only throwing in my two cents because I went paintballing with co-workers one time who had never gone before. I was constantly telling people to put their masks down or put on their barrel condoms. It drove me nuts! Any one over the age of 14 should have the common sense to follow directions and keep their masks on in a playing area, new player or not IMO.

                  rant ended

Perhaps for some first timers, allow them to wear extra padding and then shoot them a couple of times before the game starts. This will let them know that it does not hurt too much and they will be less afraid to move up.

i say go old skool like we do lots of time throughout the year and do centrer flag, aliens vs marines, spy vs spy, 50shots, hunt the fox, protect the president, fortress and others.

this will take the single player mentalility out of their first time and force them to really work as a team. I love when we do things like that.

total elimination has its fun parts but not nearly as fun as some of the older games

Nick, 2/3's of what you tell new players gets tossed out the window, Make sure they keep their masks on, their barrel plugs on and respect the field staff. Other details will get mucked but make sure that you emphasize this.

Other than that, the blind fire rule, excessive shooting experience, and remind them to not look down the barell and keep their fingers of the trigger unless they want to shoot and remember anything over 300 fps can have the possibility of hurting a person.
