AO: We are back from the dead... again! After an 18 day outage, we are finally alive and well. Who knew how complicated updating software/databases from 2008 would be. I still have alot of tweaks to make, but my main goal was getting everything patched and updated to 2026.
Vbulletin 6 has changed alot since 2008 so we will have a ton of new features to dig into.
My only 3 complaints with the phonom are as follows:
1. Too much bulk, should have been milled down, no reason for the extra size. Also I hate the ergonomics of tippmans (personal preference).
2. It does not have it's own regulator.
Does the front end come off? It looks from some of the pics I've seen that the front 2" or so of upper receiver and rails come off to shorten the thing up.
Does it need a reg? I'm kind of assuming with the similarity in valves that its got the same type of built-in reg that the A.I.R. valve does. Is this the case?

No it doesn't, it has a volumizing chamber, but no reg.
Damon actually made the one button programming for a custom Timmy I built
it also only had a slide switch (crazy AIM frame)
it is the one you want if you want to stick with the stock look, although it wouldnt be hard to put in the 2 button board and mount a membrane pad on the back of the frame

So as I understand that, the only real difference between the single and double button is the presence of the membrane pad?

nice viking btw... any plans on milling?
Thanks and no. I'm pretty much done spending < thousands of bucks on markers. It was cool back in 01 with my Cobra Angel but I'm pretty much over that in my current stage of life.
If anything, I might just get a different anno scheme. I'm thinking either a green/black or red/back acid wash but other than that, the only thing i might do is change the board.
And I realize we're comparing an Emag to the Phenom. . . But please.
You're going to pull the "plastic parts" card on Automags.org?
Do I need to go find the pic of the frame carrying the Miata?
I believe the picture you are referring to is a the Carbon Fiber trigger frame.. sorry, when did CF become plastic?
Enlighten me again: whats wrong with plastic parts? PLEASE explain to my why Tom Kaye was wrong to use "plastic" in his grip frames.
There is nothing wrong with plastic in the right applications but i was talking about build quality and when it comes to tippmann.. unfortunately quantity presides over the a fore mentioned characteristic... and as stated before when did carbon fiber become plastic?
I didn't mean to get confrontational about this, since I'm actually looking into getting a Phenom and kind of wondering about how good they are. So you are arguing about a product you dont completely know about but will take up arms against any nay sayers who believe the phenom (though internally based on a mag) is inferior to an emag... makes sense to me. But if you're going to throw out incorrect arguments (steel bodies) or misleading arguments (plastic parts being inferior they are when compared to machined parts), I'm going to have to ask for an explanation on your reasoning. I apologize, whatever the material of a tippmann clamshell reciever is made of has escaped me, i havent exactly been keeping up with that company lately
my counter statements are in red
All i am trying to say is aside from the firing mechanism being based off of an automag... tippmann cant hold a candle to agd... that is all
this is beginning to remind me of the old specops "marker vs marker, which one should i buy" threads

i hear you... i have five different projects going right now and most of them entail some kind of milling and anodizing..
i worry sometimes that if when i finally complete a project, will be completely satisfied with it (and not want to spend anymore money on it other than regular maintenance)
Starting with the 98c Tippmann stopped using machined aluminum and went with a cheaper stamp pressed amalgam metal, which I believe is what they use to this day.
I don't think its stamped...it looks alot more like the parts are either investment cast or die cast. And then barely if at all cleaned up for surface finish other than paint/stickers.
Long after your G3 is in a parts bin somewhere that Viking will still be going strong. Because AKA means quality just like AGD does. Not downing your G3, they are nice and all. But its like comparing a Phenom to an Emag. You really can't compare apples to oranges.
Riiight...that's what you just did right there. Anyway, that's cool and all, people are entitled to their opinions. What I do know is that my G3 runs flawlessly, has every time I have used it, and the quality and craftsmanship is very nice. I cannot say that I ever had a Mag or even an Angel that had as few problems, or was always ready right out of the box, like my G3 has been. Plus, it's lightweight and very fast. I realize people have their favorite manufacturers and all, but I simply came around to what I was looking for in a marker and not hype or disappointment. To me, for the price point, there is not another marker out there with the consistency, speed, weight, features, craftsmanship and quality as the G3. Close runner up is the Invert Mini, which was my second choice. A distant third would have been picking up a used Angel on the cheap, or keeping the Angel I sold prior to buying the G3. Coming in a far cry away at fourth would have been putting the time and money into building a sweet Mag. Of course, that would have meant I would spend enough to purchase four G3's, invariably something wouldn't work quite right (looking at you, Level 10 kit) and it would still lack a few of the features other markers have standard. I like Mags as much as the next person, but I realized that ship sailed a long time ago for me. If I was a tinkerer with a lot of free time and money on my hands, I'd build a super Mag and rock it. Since I have neither, I'll go with the best available in my research for the price: my G3. Happy hunting with whatever you use.
