Tom, you shoulda just cut around this Mancow BS and went right to the man, IE, STERN.

He has been doing the "shock jock" thing now for twenty five years. It doesn't always wear out

Sure, some of his stuff is lame now, but he still never ceases to amaze me.

Plus, Howard's sidekicks are 10 times better than that Turd dude

      Your own Niche

Tom: "We can't be cool(WDP) or custom(WGP)or flashy(every spider clone)"

This quote segways nicely into my little point. If you start using WDP tactics to sell your products, you run the risk of being seen as chasing their coat tails.

"Look, Mags don't sell so now they are trying to be like Angels". Quotes like that one are inevitable.

At present AGD does have a Niche; "The ridiculed product that is actually better than its high profile competition" . Just ask Steve Jobs, that Niche sucks. Apple has gotten all flashy in the last few years, and laid the marketing on thick. They are still "The ridiculed product that is actually better than its high profile competition"

As a consumer, my advice to you is to take WDP on directly. You gotta knock out the champ. If you want to be funny, make fun of their sex appeal tactics.

Example: A billboard depicting an overweight paintballer showing off his E-Mag in the foreground with sexy girls (blatant Angel girl rip offs, wielding blatant Angel clones) walking away in the background covered in paint. "Sex Sells, Quality Wins".

I can think of a thousand other ways to make fun of Angels and their users. What's best, is if they fire back they will be acknowledging you as legitimate competition.

Forget women in teddies and bikinis holding markers - it would turn me on way more to see a woman wearing cleats and JT Destroyers and Jersey with a Warpfeed SFL in hand while jumpin' over Suppair Tootsie rolls to bunker somebody. I know I don't account for the masses, but I also know I'm not the only one.

Tom, do you consider teenagers your largest target demographic? Just curious, it's NOT a loaded question.

Sorry I'm late in joining the debate, but here goes...
1.) What Tom said about humor in advertising is completely true. I love funny commercials (and HATE all other ones), and when I'm using my replay TV, if it's live (not already recorded) I will choose to watch one hilarious commercial several times, rather then suffer through garbage like local car dealership commercials. More often than not, though, I will just pause it and get a snack.
2.) I don't understand (well I understand, but don't agree with) the uproar over skirts billboard, and that is not just because I am a teenage male . Seriously, though, I wouldn't think or twice or be offended by it. The billboard doesn't show much more breast then most bikinis I see at the beach. Certainly not offensive , in my eyes, but I certainly do not represent the majority of AO. Also, from a strictly marketing standpoint, I think it does it's job. It grabs attention, sticks in the consumer's mind. I do think, however, that the original ad doesn't explain itself enough, and the reworked version with the warp on the left side makes it much clearer for the people who don't know the warp.
3.) If I think of some aspect of this I missed I'll post it later.
4.) Feel free to pick this apart, I'm sure someone will.
