    Scenario Players???? Poll

    AO,

I want to get a feel for how many of us either play scenario regularly or would want too if there was one in your area.

    Thanks,

i play as many as i can they are very fun. I like the people that attend them. I don't get to play as often as i would like so the longer scenario games with more players and lots of activities really makes the day fun.

(Originally typed this up to the scen. game review by Tom)

Tom, your comment on scen. games is very interesting.

You said that scenario may be the next big thing in paintball.

What I have always never understood is the gearing of the paintball industry for the 2% that play tournaments.

I have fun playing recball. So do the other 98% that play recball. Why aren't we catered to more?

The top magazines and sites place an emphasis on tournament play. Whether it be a tournament report, or playing tips, they are geared for that scene.

Is it because the 98% hold the 2% in such high regard?

I am willing to bet that a majority of players would find it more enjoyable to be playing in a weekend scenario game then they would in a tournament.

In a tournament, your entire reason for being there is to win.

In a scenario game, your only reason to be there is to have a good time. To have fun.

Why isn't scenario gaming or recball glorified as much as tourney ball?

What do I want paintball to be?

I don't want paintball to be in the Olympics. It isn't an Olympic sport. I don't want paintball to be an 'extreme' sport. Extreme sports (at least the popular ones) that get airtime are the ones requiring an artistic element. I don't care for paintball to go mainstream.

There are posts on every forum that pop up every now and then wishing for paintball to be in the Olympics, X-Games, or on TV. Why? How does it benefit YOU the player. Ask yourself, how does it benefit YOU.

Just 5 years ago, FIVE years ago you would not hear of guns being stolen from the staging area. Now, you have to keep an eye on your gun at all times.

I put the fault of these stolen guns on the
'mainstreaming' of paintball. It brings in more butt holes.

Mainstream has turned one of my passions, snowboarding, into a corporate whore of sorts. Since when is macaroni and cheese extreme? Mainstream is good for the greedy corporation. I love snowboarding. I love macaroni. I am confused by extreme macaroni.

Tom Kaye PLAYS paintball still. The bitter old men we know as Tom Kaye and Bud Orr and Glenn Palmer and Dennis Tippmann are still here today. They provide for the players what the players want.

My distaste for Brass Eagle stems from their lack of love. They are run by suits. Suits who do not play paintball. Remember the Viewloader fiasco with their nasty shells and lids? Don't forget the Shatnerball paint drama just this past summer.

Some may argue that BE brought many players in. Yes, but at what cost?

They have no love for us.

Mainstream isn't good for me. Mainstream isn't good for paintball.

Remember the articles a year ago looking for a paintball identity? I don't need a paintball identity. It is not a lifestyle. I recall the articles pushing punk music on me.

What if the biggest drama in paintball was not Jeremy Salm, but Tom Kaye and Bud Orr in a 2000+ player battle against Jon Rice and Dennis Tippmann?

I also recall an article just a few years ago calling the present time the golden age of paintball. It was deemed so because paintball had not yet become corporate or mainstream. Perhaps the golden age is still ahead of us.

I see scenario games as the future of paintball. You go to a scenario game for the sole reason of having fun. And the free gun giveaways.

Isn't that what paintball is all about? We play because it is fun.

I am not looking down on tournaments, but I am part of the 98% that loves going to the rickety old field with 1 port-a-potty and go in the woods to run around and shoot paint.

I don't have to worry about anything except what to eat at the end of the day. (and maybe keep an eye on my equipment)

What do you want paintball to be?

I want paintball to be fun.

I agree with nippinout completely. And while I haven't played any scenerio games yet (lack of funding comboed with back issues) I can really see that as my type of game. Especially with how much I like woodsball.

I prefer big games to scenario games.

Scenario's involve too much off field stuff to determine who wins and then it can all be snatched away in the end by some stupid play etc...

I like big games because it's straight forward and you just play ball with nice set objectives that everyone knows about.

but since there is no big game option, I'll play Scenarios that are in my area.... or in the USA as the case may be

I've always considered myself more of a tourney player but I like scenarios and big games for the reasons others mentioned. It's nice to unwind and just shoot a lot of paint and not worry so much about who wins.

And after wandering into Shatnerball, over-confident, sure of a win and getting stomped (at least in points). I'm a little intrigued with being a better scenario player.

i love playing all kinds of paintball, but scenarios are prob my favorite type, i've played atleast 7 of them in the last 2 years and i love them, especially when there atleast 1800 people there playing at the same time like at the WRG at skirmish and D-day at skirmish this past summer, so much fun.

                    I love senario/big games

i think if i had my choice it's all i would play.

around here in the summer there is just about 1 a month.

and i try and make them all.

they are just so much more fun the your std rec ball.

i mean pay for 3 hrs of rec play and play 6 games

or play for 12-26 hr and live in a very target rich enviorment.

                    i choose the latter.

Do you people play Scenarios, for the scenario and theme part of it, or for the big game 'Target Rich Environment' part of it?

I play Scenerio's as if they are Big Games Target's please!

I don't go for a days role playing, I go for a days paintball playing.

I met a guy at Spplat who said the best Scenario for him was one where he never fired a shot, but instead strutted around in costume all day giving orders

Not me! I want to play paintball.

                        simon,

                        thats right give me TARGETS.

i love playing a game and the only reason to come off the feild is to get more paint and air.

i have carryed 1500 rnds onto the feild and used it all defending a base in wave after wave of people charging it.

like shooting ducks in a barrell.

p.s. if your going to play big games invest in a camelback!

i play scenario games for the target rich enviroments, but also for the missions.

last one i attended (MXS - Mechwar) i was given two mission cards (both were already underway and other squads had already failed to complete them) that had to be completed in the next 4 minutes. since a single mission can make or break the game, we had to complete them both.

3:50 left, and i have to two different spots on the other side of the field, through enemy held territory, to perform photo recon (read: take a polaroid photo of two random "bases")

i have yet to replicate the rush that i got sprinting through 80+ acres of people that wanted to change the color of my goggles on a horribly tight time constraint. luckily i finished both ops and turned in my cards with about :15 left, and collected our 55 points (30 and 25)

after it was all said and done, we (clan ghost bear) was victorious. our margin of victory? 60 points if i (or any other teammate) would have failed those missions and a single extra character would have gotten eliminated, we would have lost the battle. our team played exceptional well together and the hard work of everyone made the victory even sweeter.

i strongly suggest hitting a scenario if you haven't yet.

and you meet some great/weird people playing scenario games (like "damage inc", damn fine gentlemen all of them)

I like the Scenario games. I am not the tourney type. I like to play for fun, not to win.

I also like playing a part. If I could have attended the Shatnerball I would have been decked out as the borg....my husband said I was a dork lol, he is more of a tourney player out for blood.

I would definitely play if they had them in New England.
