Alien is electric-pnumatic - Epic is mechanical
Alien is Valve and Pin - Epic is dump valve
Alein has a ram - Epic doesn't
Alien has the barrel mounted to the back- Epic mounts the barrell on the front (also Alien has with only an air directing back plug that can be removed and a battle swab can be pushed all the way through - Epic has an air chamber in the back and can only be cleaned from the front)
Alien has a dividing plate that works offset (from the side) - Epic woks in line (front to back)
Alien has a ram that opens and closes the dividing plate "hatch cover" that seals the chamber - Eic has a plunger, the back chamber holds the air for the dump valve, when charged this air pushes against the plunger that's connected the trap door which seals the chamber. When fired a spring opens the "trap door" then it recharges and reseals
Alien can cylce at 40 ball per second+ and shoots as fast as a hopper can load it - Epic shoots at 9 balls per second.
Alien uses standard regs - Epic can't
Alien can use any type of drop or Bottle - Epic uses only screw in
Alien uses cocker threads - Epic uses cocker threads

The thing about an Epic is it doesn't really need to use a "trap door" If they replace the door with a bolt the ball would be pushed into the barrel instead of a door sliding over the ball outside the barrel. Personally I don't understand the advantage of a trap door in the Epic setup. It should have a bolt.- the Epic is fairly quiet and has very little recoil, similar to Matrix and the Epic on their web site was available for under $500.

The alien gets seveal advantages by haveing the "Hatch Cover" Speed, Size, and Ease of Cleaning among them. Plus it has good gas uasge and is very accurate.

Well, I have read most of the pages on PBNation about the Alien marker, and I must say that it is interesting. While it is conceptually similar in it's feeding to the Epic, it seems to have its own unique style.

That being said, I don't believe I will be interested in one. There are a couple of reasons for this:

1: Jim Drew is involved with this (one that can spew hype out of both ends)

2: your attitude (honestly, it doesn't give me a whole lot of confidence that I'd get a complete and honest answer it I ever had a problem)

I have spoken with Jim from EPIC about the concerns of a patent infringement, and he understands the differences between the Alien marker and the EPIC, and agrees that there is no conflict. The operation of the a "door" is completely different.

The Alien's hatch, is normally open, allowing balls to fall into the breech. When the trigger is pulled, the eyes are checked to make sure a ball is in the breech and if so, the solenoid is engaged. At this point, the ram starts moving towards the rear of the marker. A rod attached to the ram is bent at a 90 degree angle and comes up through the "door" (a carbon fiber plate with a timing groove cut in it for the rod). As the ram moves backwards, the door starts closing. The door pivots on an access point, and the timing groove in door determines at what point the door is fully closed before the air is expelled. Whe the door is completely closed (sealing the chamber) the ram hits the pin-valve (ala a Spyder, Angel, etc.) and releases the gas to expell the ball. Now, the slick thing about this design is that when the door is moving (side to side), it has a beveled "arm" that grabs the balls and pushes it into the barrel just before firing. There is no blow back at all! At the World Cup, we put tissue paper over the feed neck, and it never moved when fired.

With this design, probably the biggest difference between the EPIC is the fact that the pneumatics in the Alien will cycle at 50cps. There is no big mass to move, just the door and hammer. The EPIC will cycle at a maximum of 10cps.
