I am good friends with my local post master and he knows full and well I ship Paintball markers all the time. And he is well aware its perfectly legal and withing US Postal service rules. In fact he and some of the other Postal people had me bring one in and show them one day what they were like. They were just mildly interested in them just because they had kids and all. I bet I ship more than you do. Did you MARK IT A GUN? Now that might be stupid. Because it is not. No funny business these days at the PO. But if this happened than your local PO is entirely incorrect and liable for seeing that your package is returned. Go upstairs with it.

And here is part of the problem. Calling them Guns! Quit! they are markers. And there is no need to put ANYTHING on the outside identfying what they are. And in fact I recommend you do not. Nothing! Its not required!

                LOL! yea... possible.

I have to wonder if this "customer" didn't screw up and LABELED it a "GUN" and started this whole misunderstanding. Its very likely something like that could have occured. If thats the case it will all clear itself up and THAT CUSTOMER will be the one to get hasseled in the end. But I am confident it will clear itself up either way. In the long run.

So what if the UPS is hard on packages? Just get alot of insurance on it, and you will be fine. They can pay for another of whatever you had in the box. It's a cycle, after so many people get enough insurance, and file claims that their packages were damaged, UPS will begin to notice that they are losing money due to so many people getting cash from them. They will eventually weed out the workers who find it funny to damage someone elses stuff, and fire them.

phil, i could be wrong, but, from the first post, alan didnt ship this. someone shipped it to him. and he wasnt allowed to see the package. now, if the person who shipped it marked it as a gun.. foolish of them.

just wanted to point that out.

Sure joey. I said "His customer" might have marked it or something. And he would not know that because they would not let him see the package. And if he did then yea it would cause a comotion! thats why I mentioned it.

Being a business owner myself and doing a lot of shipping of markers through USPS, I will be checking into this. I refuse to have this garbage happen to me.

Man this would be a ****ty scenario. I do happen to hold a federal firearms license for some other business related reasons but have not once had to produce it or even mention it once while shipping a marker that the post office KNEW was inside of the box.

I feel for ya bro... Lemme know if there is anything remotely possible that I can do for you.

sorry, but... i can't help it but call it guns, you really cant just go to USPS and say "sir is it legal to ship paintball markers?" "whats that now? you re worried bout sending paint... markers?"
you would have a hard time putting that argument that paintball "markers" are not "guns", anyone who doesn't play paintball, will and bout 75% will always call it a gun, for what it does.

                              A firearm...

So where is the FIRE in a pneumatic paint marker? The definition of a firearm is a device that projects a metal projectile by an explosion.

A pneumatic paint marker is neither.

It "looks" like a gun? I guess impact wrenches mechanics use are considered firearms to the U.S Postal service... so are spray "guns", and what about cocking "guns"? I guess anything in the shape of an L that can be held horizontally is considered a firearm to the U.S Postal Service...

No I do not have ANY problem telling people they are Markers and not guns. And it's like cursing. If you get in a habit you will do it at the most inappropriate times. Try to not make it a habit and it's not going to happen.

But I have no difficulty at all explaining to them or anyone why they are NOT guns. It's fairly simple. They are not firearms by legal definition and by legal precident. they do not discharge a projectile fast enough and in the right way to be firearms. By law and definition. they will not kill. And the ATF recognises they are not firearms. They do not regulate them. Plain and simple. So do not call them something that they are not. Easy

No I not going to ban you. Just a warning is all.
