Dead Mans Walk

Dead Man's Walk - This is when a player pretend to be hit and walks to the deadbox. Then once gets close or passes him he attempts to eliminate everyone.

I have done this and had this done to me, Back when i was about 11 a guy did a dead mans walk all the way to the back bunker and made 3 guys (including me) surrender. What i don't like about this is that it made me thing "What if i could do this?". It teaches players how to bend the rules and play cheaply.

When i did a dead man's walk, sure it made me feel good that i got a guy in his behind. But then when it's done to you it's not a very fun experiance, especially when you're new to the game.

Should the DMW be allowed or should it be considered cheating or illegal in the sport of paintball?

As long as they do not have their hands or gun in the air, I see no problem with it.

At Sam's Big Game, there was a line of people walking off the field hit, and they all had their plugs in and whatnot. I jumped in (still alive) the middle of the line and while holding my unplugged gun down low, I walked out of an explosive firefight and got behind a few guys. Perfectly legal.

This is a good question. I think it should be allowed, because it could allow for some good upsets for such a risky manouver.

ill blow someone the hell away if they dead mans walk the field, twice as hard if he tries it on me. hopefully that would instill the lesson of not cheating deep in his head. I think its *POOF* though for people to dmw because how would you like to be walking off the field get lit up by 5 guys just checking every single game. If someone ever does that ill check them every other game with 5 shots. i know bonus balling isnt great either but if people dmw then its kinda the only way to combat it.

uhh it's your problem if you don't shoot someone who doesn't have a clear hit on them, still has there armband on, and doesn't have there gun in the air..

If it's a recball type game, or just speedball for fun I can understand being pissed because it isn't for anything.. And you probablly don't want to light someone up just because they don't have there gun in the air.. But if it's a tournament your a moron if you don't make sure someone walking off the field is hit.

i wish i played near you. Ide come DMW on you all day and watch you throw a **** fit and not be able to do a thing about it.

Ya but about that. I already shoot people who walk off the field slow, cuz there usually in my way and its annoying. So I cant see someone bein able to slowly walk up the tape or anything on me without there gun up. Ide prolly throw a few balls there way anyways just for kicks. I hate it when people walk slow off the field.

I would probaly laugh my freaking Head off if some punk did this to me, then I would probably get crazy angry. I've been actually thinking of doing this when we have a tourny and we are down (which I doubt).

One solution for that, and the ONLY solution I've been able to come up with.

Standardise how an eliminated player will walk off the field. Anyone NOT walking off the field in that manner is fair game, and has no right to complain. And it has to be a "signal" that most players will not see on a normal basis on the paintball field.

Here's my suggestion. Left hand (or whichever isn't holding a gun) on top of your head, or on the back of your head or neck. It's not "Hands up", it's one hand on your head or neck, personal prefrence.

I already do this out of reflex. I'd like to see it universally adopted. I learned it at the Knoxville indoor back in '97. It worked then, it works now.

That being said, I also use the DMW as nessary. But I also learned the CORRECT WAY to do a DMW! Both hands on gun, gun NOT dipped below the belt line or above shoulders, and you just WALK. It's not gun over head, or below belt, it's walking with the gun at "relaxed".

I also know that you can't LIE while doing it. If someone asks me point blank "Are you out?" I can't say "Yes." I save the 'walk' for big games, however, when the chaos is high. I've walked through the lines of opponents before, seeking out one person by doing this. And if it weren't for the guys who were already out of the game cheating (yelling at the live players that I was still alive), I'da gotten him too. And a cheater is worse than a sneaky bastard any day.

Which also brings me to a point here. What in the hell gives you, or anyone else, the right to act as judge, jury and exicutioner against someone who you think has broken a rule? There is no rule, as far as I'm aware, against doing a "dead mans walk." There are rules against saying you're out, then shooting someone. But a DMW, properly done, does not do that. There are rules against wiping, playing on, and shooting hot. If I am not acting in a manner that indicated my elimiantion (barrel plug / bag on, hands on head / over head, yelling "I'm out") am I breaking a rule? No. I'm pulling a fast one.

So what gives you the right to unload a hopper of paint on somoeone because you think his 'tactic du jour' is "dirty"? Oh, sure, you could possibly injure someone because what they did something you didn't think of. Great. By that logic, if I think that shooting black shelled paint is "dirty" because I can't see it coming, do I have the right to unload on you because it's in your hopper? NO! Overshooting somoene for a DMW makes about as much sense! Heck, some field have RULES against overshooting, but nothing about pulling a fast one or faking out the other team.

The DMW is a tool in my arsenal. It's not always used, but it's one of them. I've got a LOT of tricks in my bag I can pull out in any given situation. I don't always use "Zen Player Bob" either, but he's there if I need him. I don't always spray paint downfield. I don't always sneak around. Why am I going to be punished by you for following the rules but being sneaky about it? Because it offended YOU!?!?!? Oh, pardon me, oh holier than thoust. Please forgive me for having the audacity, impudence and intrepidity to outsmart you. Next time just light me up for flanking to a better position too after I elimiate you too. Or club me in the head for fast-talking my way into a base camp to snatch a flag from under your nose. HEY! Let's light up that guy puking his guts out in his mask too! He's trying an "Upchucker's Walk!" Obviously a devious tactic to get us to get closer to him so he can shoot us all!

Look, the DMW is a part of the game UNTIL you can get everyone to agree on a standard to exit the field. If all players walked off the field as I said above, it would be a non-issue. I know I prefer to get the hell out of the way before I even TRY to find my barrel plug in my pocket to stuff it in there. Yes, it's just leaving the field, but if the DMW is such a problem, you make everyone leave the field in the same way and anyone NOT leaving the field like that is fair game. END OF DISCUSSION.

In the meanwhile, if someone does a DMW on you, don't get mad at them. They pulled a stunt, you got caught. And don't unload on them, because that makes you a sadist at best, and an (deleted by Tyger for the PG rating of this rant) at worst.

for all of you out there that wish to try this tactic
i have found it works best when you are in the back. this way the other team can see you casually walking from far away and they will not precieve you as a threat.
also if the other team nows where you are call a ref over and tell him quietly you are about to do a dmw. to the other team this will look like a paint check and when you walk out right after the ref it will look like he called you out. this is also good because then the ref knows whats going on and can explain to all those that think this is a form of cheating that they are wrong and have in fact been eliminated from the game
