    Murphy's Law
    ((U+C+I) x (10-S))/20 x A x 1/(1-sin(F/10))

U for urgency, C for complexity, I for importance, S for skill, F for frequency and A for aggravation. Or in the researchers' own words: "If you haven't got the skill to do something important, leave it alone. If something is urgent or complex, find a simple way to do it. If something going wrong will particularly aggravate you, make certain you know how to do it."

Ah, but that is where theory and reality differ.

If that statement were true, in the majority of cases, then we would not see the kinds of things we see now a days.

      Case in point:

I've got a buddy that works for GM (the car company). He's in the advanced engineering department, working on things you will see in the 2008-09 model years. They are designing motors to run 250k miles there, and are planning to do at least 100k of those miles with zero (0) maintenance. You know what most of the systems on that motor are controled by? Electronics. In fact, they have seen a better than 100% gain in reliablility by going to solid state electronics where they used to use mechanical systems.

The simple fact is, that in a world where friction exists, every moving part that you can remove from a system, and replace with an electronic part, will ultimately raise the reliability of that system.

Diesel engines in them big ol' over the road trucks use solenoids (big honkin' ones mind you) to open and close their valves, instead of a cam, rocker arms, and pushrods, because it was found that those parts were the most succeptable to wear. Replaced them with electronics (or in this case, an electromechanical system), and the reliability went up.

For PB guns, electronics are the simpler, cheaper, and ultimately better answer (from an engineering standpoint at least).

However, (and its a big one), a certain duo of companies hold a patent that makes that the more expensive and irritating route.

This type of control will be the next best thing.

The only real way to tell if it will or will not be reliable, is to get them out there and abuse the **** out of them for a while, and see what happens. You can statistically model all you want, but unless you have a fairly good base to start from, the statistics are going to run you around in circles.

I personally would not worry about it out and out failing, I would worry more about the possible tuning nightmares a system of this sort could bring with it. If they make it simple enough, and remove the need to tune it too much (or at all), it should be fine though.

What we all really need to do, is to set back, take a deep breath, and then worry about something else for a little while. Everyone (with the exceptions of Jay and Colin) is speaking out of their depth, and that just leads to a pointless free for all.

That's what I think, your mileage may vary.

CoolHand I wish I were as smart as you.
But I just ordered an 05 freestyle today, so I hope that electronics are more reliable.

          Eh, Wadda you know.

          Actually, I agree.

In response to the question of reliability I can only answer based in my own prototypes that are out in the field. The very first version that went out maybe 6 months ago( and is still out getting tortured BTW) had around 50 thousand shots on it before it left here. It came back ONCE because after another 100 thousand shots or so, it needed oil. Never dawned on anyone to oil it.It should have at least twice that many shots on it now and as of the last 'test' it's still ripping along like a champ.(Not to mention, just after taking out a legally set up Intimidator in a side by side shooting test. )

Now see, that's the kind of thing I'm talking about. Now, you've got real numbers to work from, if you had a few more out there, you'd be well on your way to a statistical model.

Sounds like you guys got around the tuning nightmare somehow as well (which is a good thing).

I would love to see a Spyder with one of those frames on it outrun a Timmy.

            Oh the shame!

That what I was told was the case. The general consensus was that my Pnue-Trigger'd Blowback was easier to shoot fast than the Timmy. The same was said about the P-Bladed Cocker versus an out of the box Karnivore.

                realiability

as far as electros and mechs go, mechs have more moving parts, that is a HUGE reliability issue. Sure electros have their downfalls, like water, but these can be avoided by simple maintanence, just like mechs, only easier. All you have to do is make sure the electonics are sealed in the marker properly and you won't have a problem. Get water in the gun somehow? turn it off, take out the battery and let it dry. I haver personly (without a battery) submerged my electronics in my spyder in water, after drying they still work fine.

Not to be complaining or anything, but is there any new news for us? Like do you have a "things are getting better" or "this probably will not happen" or what? If you dont have anything or dont want to tell thats fine, but I think a lot of us really want an update if you have one.

Yes that was all mech. Why would you want one for an electro? If you replace the grip frame you will no longer have an electro, it doesn't make sense. Chewbacca is a wookie and he lives on Endor. If Chewbacca is a wookie you must aquit

Well, now obviously that wasn't directed at you. I know you wrote the patent. So I missed your name in the excused list - I meant the "Royal" Jay.

I quoted you to respond to the statement about reliablity that you made.

The rest was for every other person who didn't write the patent, and doesn't have any real idea what is going on.

Obviously, you are one of the few who actually does know WTH is going on right now.

Now, calm down, and have a good New Years.
