Drops make your setup WAY off balanced: Part 2

Well, cphillip closed the last one because of some bad flaming etc. Please if you don't have anything good to say, don't say anything AT ALL. I want this thread to stay open because I like the topic. So if you feel the need to flame and be negative, don't bother posting, no one appreciates it.

Well, I took these pics of my angel speed right before the last thread got closed. I took it balancing on the end of the body, on a candle(only round thing I could find). I didn't want these pics to do to waste so here they are.

No drop(standard duckbill): Note the position of where the candle is to get a good balance.

Drop(system x web): Note the position of the candle now to get a proper balance, and look at the angle of the gun while it is balancing.

Trying to get it to balance in the same spot as no drop, wouldn't balance

Some points, I think If I had a rail/asa combo on their the balancing point would be around the same spot as the drop.

P.S. Cphillip, if you don't want this open again, just close it.

      Very nice!

I see your point on the balance issue on normal 45 grips. I always found a no-drop/short drop to be more comfortable than a long drop due to balance/weight issues. But with the age of ergonomics FINALLY (after 100 years since AGD discontinued the z-grip) coming in, shouldn't the balance point be further forward anyway? Since with a vert frame you'd probably want the balance more towards the grip so it rests on your palm, and same with y-grips. I think that the dropforward should come back into fashion since there is a new gripframe.

very nice example of what a drop can do to your ballance. i guess i use a drop because i feel to streached out if i dont, just personal feel for me. but i guess it does make sence to just use a rail or no drop at all.

The starter of the last thread had a full hopper. I'd be interested in how yours changes under the same conditions.

Since I don't hold any of the guns weight with my hand on the grip, why should I care if it balances there?

I hold my gun with the hand on the foregrip, and the tank against my shoulder. All my grip-hand does it work the trigger.

This is going to be brought up a lot but maybe I'll be the first to say it if I'm quick enough. The decision between using a Drop Forward or Cradle or Unimount or even the stock ASA is preference.

For a while I used my Tippmann's ASA on my Automag, both have .45 frames, and I couldn't stand it. My marker actually had worse balance with the ASA than it does now. Right now the balance is still rather back heavy but that's because my tank is Steel. The Center of Balance is, roughly, just in front of the field strip screw under the valve. That's not very good, I know, but when the ASA was on there I couldn't find a center of balance at all.

I think the only real problem with Drop Forwards is the desire to mount it on top of your shoulder. It takes a lot of time, boredom and practice too, to do away with that habit. Even now I still, out of habit, try to rest my tank on my shoulder occasionally but I quickly correct myself.

You make a valid point, Tony. But not all Markers are designed the same so Drop Forwards and Cradles have difference effects on them.

              My opinion has been voiced.

I agree with deathstalker. While your point is well illustrated with the photos wouldn't a hopper full of paint effect both situations?

Generally, when I'm shooting, the gun is tilted up. It's hard to shoot anything with the barrel pointed at the ground. Thus, the "drop" would lend itself to a more natural shooting balance...

kinda pointless w/o paint or air. I dont understand why people do balance at the back of the gun. Infact, for angels, I would think that you would want something alittle more front heavy do to recoil...

No paint at time of pics, I'll make sure to redo them with paint because of the difference it probably could make.

Are you sure that that candle can hold a hopper full?
but yes, looks good, but I will always use my 8" drop forward

I don't like rails for one simple reason.

When I use a rail I feel like i'm shooting a real gun. All this paintball is already screwing up my real shooting, the last thing i need to do is make it worse.

I prefer to keep my body more square when shooting a paintball gun, which is where the drop helps me. The rail kind of pushes my body into a more traditional shooting stance, which is not what I want. I find it much easier to work the left if i have my body squared behind bunkers. With a rifle or submachine gun i don't have to go to my left often, if ever (since I tend not to find myself in too many actual firefights!)
Or better yet, why don't you kill yourself. No, really, die. Drop dead, don't leave a note, in fact burn your house while your little ego is stuck in a bench vice so that you'll also incenerate yourslef and everything you own with it. Because that's all you're worth. You're not even wirh thte time it'll take for the house to burn down, so just kill yourself. You're a waste of space. You are nothing, you always will be nothing. Don't leave a note, you're not worth the ink. - Tyger
