Good find. Thank you. Using this article as gospel, BPD was using the FN 303's, ("The pepper guns, manufactured by FN Herstal, use a compressed-air system similar to paint-ball guns") I am not familiar with impact injuries of the FN 303 so I can't comment. But, those are NOT pepperball impacts on that poor guy.

However, this is my favorite statement of the article:

Pickle, you basically stated what I wanted to. I can not figure out why people think that rioting should be the way to celebrate a win.

As for the FN pepper rounds and the impact that they cause. The projectiles are first designed to stop a person and then despense the pepper. The shells are made of a rather thick plastic, they weigh 8.5 grams (almost 3 times a normal paintball), still travel at 300fps and the front it filled with bismuth pellets (basically like lead).

Now, what bothers be is the number of times that guy was hit. I think once, maybe twice would have been sufficient if they were infact using the OC balls. Being hit 12 times is a bit much. What the hell did this guy do after the fist hit? I mean come on, if I got hit once I would stop what ever the hell i was doing and put my hands on my head.

Why don't you people start taking the perspective of the actual innocent people who where having their property destroyed. Unlike the riot mongers, they didn't have a choice. I am sorry that someone died, but would there have been such a reaction if one of those "harmless" bottles had hit an officer in the temple?
Instead of asking if the police were trained correctly, why don't we ask if the vandelous students were raised correctly? Isn't that the real question?
Anyone who is picking up the cause of the "innocent rioteer" looks foolish. If they wish to stand by them, then they should buy a couple of kegs and invite them over to THEIR neighborhood for the deciding world series game. Perhaps perspectives would change afterwords.

So they'll be going to tippmanns and firing round balls at slightly lower velocities and with less accuracy because of one accident... great decision.

pretty much.. What they didn't report is that 3 other people were sent to the hospital.. One person was shot in the cheek and tore a hole in their face, another was shot in the forehead and cracked their skull -- lodging pellet fragments into their sinus... The picture of the other guy explains itself. Obviously these are severe impact weapons and they do serve a purpose..... Is there a way to turn the velocity down on them? Muz? (I wonder if they just aren't informed enough to know how to 'tech' them to save velocities)

Doesn't mean it won't kill you in a freak accident if it hits you in the eye though... that limit is about 2ftlbs IIRC and that's about what airsoft guns do.

I can just imagine the police running around using airsoft guns to stop rioters...

As for that "IDIOT" with the multiple hits who claims he wasn't doing anything wrong other than climbing statues and 'having fun'... he deserves what he got... and more. I hope the police can use his own testimony against him for tresspassing and vandalism. If he had stopped what he was doing when he should of (or not done it in the first place) I doubt he would have taken so many hits.

I agree.. Obviously he got shot for a reason... Most of the pepole who were shot were trying to scale the 30ft wall of the "green monster" of fenway park... pretty surreal sight seeing people hanging from the rafters and beams. with the eye being some pretty soft tissue, it takes a one in a million shot to randomly get shot there.. unfortunately for the girl she was at the wrong place at the wrong time. i guess one of the officers who was involved with the shooting is so distraught he might not come back to the force.

For those that share my opinion here, I have found a dearth of idiots at PBN. Yeah, I know no suprise there. For those that do not share my opinion you should all be ashamed of your like minded folks over at PBN.
I actually went over to PBN just to see what kind of manure was there. I wasn't suprised. I was only warmed with the knowledge that AO is so much better than PBN.

Any non lethal can be deadly if mis-used. The Palestinians have learned that at the hands of the Israelis. Anyone struck in the head can be seriously injured or killed by the "less lethal" or "non lethal" weapons.

The palestinians can avoid learning this lesson: refraining from throwing rocks at civilians in cars, refraining from launching rockets at civilian housing, refraining from putting homicide rigs on religious fanatics, refraining from teaching their children that america and 'the jews' stole the land from them, refraining from supporting an idiotic dictator named arafat and refraining from trying to lay claim to land that they never owned, occupied or had any right to.

Those who are taking issue with the student who got shot several times and who "must have been doing something other than having fun" need to be reminded of the post from those who wanted to know how you knew what was going on in the mind of the police officer who fired the shots. How do you know?

Are you so pro-police that you think that everyone who is arrested MUST be guilty?

And a reminder that the police are 'supposed' to be trained to use as little force as is necessary for a given situation, are supposed to do so in as humane a fashion as possible and are never, ever allowed to use for for 'punishment' purposes - that's for the courts to mete out if and when its justified.

I'm not a 'knee jerk, bleeding heart liberal' - but I have been subject to police abuses and brutality and I certainly don't automatically side with their version of the facts.

I think everyone ought to sit back and see what the investigation turns up.
