Looking to buy a new gun

New to these forums, I was directed here by someone on model98.net.

Well, Im looking to buy a new marker in a few months, May or June. Im stuck between a new Impulse, used Shocker, and an Automag. I dont know too much about Mags, so Im coming here to be enlightened. What are the pros and cons to owning a Mag? Whats the maintanence like? Speed? Upgradability? Most importantly, price?

Thanks a bunch for any help. You can shoot me and IM, email, post, whatever.

Some pros (for a mech): fast, short trigger pull; large amount of after markert parts; reliable; smooth operation; small profile; light

Some cons: can be a bit of a gas hog; can be slow when compared to other marker

If you get a nice, custom mag that is all new, it will be about the price of a stock Impulse. You can get the RT ULE from AGD for about $375 w/ ULE, ULT, and single trigger frame.

If you have the money, out of your list, go witht he Shocker. Make sure it is a new model made in 04. In this price range you could get a used Viking. The Viking will beat everything I mentioned by a large amount.

Im new to Mags, so please elaborate on the ULE and ULT. Viking?

Well, if Im getting a Shocker, its going to be used, and if I can get an up'ed Impy for a good price with atleast an Egg and 68/4500 or bigger nitro for under $600, thats going to be mine. As I said, Im not getting this till May or June, so Ive got a while to shop around.

Ive seen Mags on 888paintball.com (only the 68 model, I think) and I just ignored that when I bought my 98 Custom. Ive seen Mags in some speedball videos, and decided that they must be on par with atleast an Impulse, and when someone said they were at the same price or cheaper, decided that they must be a deal. Is there any way I can get an electro Mag for cheap? I kind of want to get an electro and get away from the mechs, and try and get into the speedball scene. No E-Mag as they are a good $800 out of my price range, unless someone can direct me to some cheap or used ones.

Any got anything to mention about maintanence?

I'm going to be as honest, blunt and straightforward as possible.

These days a premium is placed on speed and good anti-chop eyes, and it really is important. Past that, you need to decide what's important to you - weight? Dependability? Size? Efficiency?

In that price range, I really can't suggest any of the 3 markers you've mentioned. I would look into used 2k2 Intimidators and Freestyles and used vikings with eyes. They are all faster than any of the markers you've mentioned and have better eyes.

I've seen 2k2 timmies go in the $500-600 range all over the place (ebay, pbnation...) and 2k4 freestyles are $620 brand new.

Please try out whatever you can at your local fields, preference is important, but keep in mind that electronic triggers can be as good or as bad as their owners set them up to be.

A RT mag will keep on the speedball field. I think most electro mags are over priced. I would suggest buying one if you aren't in love with mags. Do you have a nitro tanks and what typr of hopper do you have.

Are you saying RT mags keep up on the speedball field? Not legally, at least not 95% of their owners. Or maybe your fields are different than mine. Around here, everyone has a matrix, timmy, or angel, and they are all stupid fast... mechanical markers just don't compete around here. It's the player, not the gun... but using a mechanical marker still puts you at a significant disadvantage, and I'm a firm believer that your marker should never be a disadvantage to you.

If you get into that price range, I'd go with a Viking. The Viking is considered one of the best if not the best marker out right now. The 02/03 Vikings have been selling for a very good price, and for $600, you could have a nice one. More info is here...

I kept up fine with my legal RT mag. I played against the type of marker just like you do. I do admit since I got the Viking it has gotten easier.

No electro hopper and no nitro here. Im still playing with gravity fed hoppers and CO2.

Ive seen on paintballclassifieds.com that I can get a used Impulse package (gun with some ups, nitro (68/4500 or so) and an egg for about $700. I dont want to go much higher than $800, and anything lower than that for a gun (I want electro), 68/4500 nitro or bigger and a hopper, would be awesome. I was thinking about just getting the basic Impulse, and then upgrading it with eyes a few months down the road.

Ive seen Angels on paintballclassifieds.com for $800. I have to say those a wickedly stupid fast, but theres no way I would use that gun to its potential - Ive played woodsball for 3 years now. I was playing with an Impulse for a day and could barely walk it 12, but that didnt matter with woodball.

Don't waste your time with a Impulse. If you are going electro, get a Viking. They are everything you could want. They are faster then Angels too

Vikings rock. It's kind of tricky to find one with eyes for cheap, though.

Keep in mind you'll need a tank and a fast hopper. Best bet is a crossfire preset and either a Halo B if you feel like spending the bucks, or an Egg with a zboard

You can use a small tank like a 43/3000 with Viking too. I'd bet you would get around 800 shots from it.

If you want a mech mag I have a well kept logic framed (thats a space frame made by the member Coolhand), RT with the aluminum ULE body, progressive barrel and the level 10 anti chop bolt. I'm asking $410

I was thinking an Egg with a Z board, because I cant fathom paying $130 for a hopper. Ive never heard of Vikings before, but I did look at the site that was posted before. Seems a bit expensive. Id like to stick to the more well known markers, because I have a feeling that since its my first electro that Im going to mess it up somehow, and I want to make sure that the local shop people can fix it.

Are E-Mags the only Mag thats electro? Probably a stupid question, but oh well. Those RT Mags, are those gas reset, like the Tippmann RT? If so, I want to stay away from that.
