cockers... or maybe even angels... maybe. but apparently tippies in some areas... not so much here, as kids don't really play with them ( all the fields have them so = less cool to own your own)

    out!

come to think about anything popular is overhyped

anything that has an advertisement is overhyped

anything that has a high resale value is overhyped

I doubt anyone is reading this anymore, but I'll post my $0.02

Over Hyped: '03 Shocker. Everyone loves them and everyone has them, but they are not without their flaws (I own one, so I know what I'm talking about). Not to mention SP customer service BLOWS! My gun has been in the shop for about 4 months now waiting for SP to ship a part. What part, you ask? A SOLENOID PIN! That's it! Just one!

Also, Tippmanns. Everyone who's anyone in the scenario world either has one or wants one. Reasonably so, all the mil-sim parts out there make it very attractive.

Under rated: Going a bit left of center here, Shoebox Shockers. I know at one point they were loved and highly respected, but if you go out to play with one today, be prepared to be ridiculed. Not many people have much respect for them anymore.

And... Automags. Here on AO I beleive them to be over hyped, but to the rest of the world, they are frowned upon.

Gun I am most hyped about: My ULE EP Automag (thanks Pneumagger! )! Now I just have to wait... patiently... but it's so hard... waiting... sucks... big time...

hmmm idk where you are playing scenario but i know a lot of people that paly scenario that do not have tippmans and dont want one. ive palyed scenarios for almost 3 years now and my team has never had a tippman on it (we have been bouncing around 4-8 members over the last 3 years), most of the big teams out there dont use tippmans, they are mostly using either electros or very high end mechs.

A word about paintball guns. the person makes the gun not the other way around. I say everyone should try with a pump first then when you get on target with your accuracy then switch to semi, you won't believe how much more disciplined your shot will be and you won't be spraying and praying.
Or be like me and play hopper ball. works almost the same as playing with a pump except you get the added bonus of getting used to how your guns performs

Most of the heavy scenario guys I've played with swear by there Tippmann's. I never meant all, but they are highly hyped for that market. Look at the Brigade. Tippmann fanatics they are (the site, not necessarily the members).

yep most real scenario teams that I see at the big games roll with electros or high-end mech & pumps.

                    Overhyped: The DYE Ultralite Autococker.
Folks, for a year, DYE managed to sell a mass produced mechanical 'cocker for $1300. Unbelievable. There are limited run cockers that got this price (original Rippers, Westwoods, Flames, BPS Twisters, etc), but this thing was availabe anywhere, anytime, and got that price. A year later, PsychoBallistics marketed the same gun (yes, I am aware of the manufacturing differences) for a thousand dollars less.

Underhyped 1: The E-mag in in the summer of 2000 (maybe 2001).
You'd have to have been playing or trading a while to remember this, but in the summer of '00 or '01 an E-mag could have been had for $250-$350 dollars. It was absolutely insane. The market was flooded, people were nitpicking on shot counters, it was simply amazing. I actually bought one in that time period for $175 and sat on it for a year before selling it.

                    Underhyped 2: The Leertech Matrix.
Traded a guy at the field for one of these a loooong time ago. Think he gave me that and mad cash for a Race-framed STO. Anywho. I shot this thing and was like, "wow". The gun was crazy. Silent, accurate, fast. Well, we all know the story of the Matrix now, but back then, it was incredibly unknown, and incredibly cheap (to put it in perspective, it cost less than an RT Pro or Black Magic autococker).
