Sneak Peak at the New Vents Goggles

This is a repost of something on PBN.

I am VERY BADLY disapointed by the looks of the design, although the pictures are kinda crappy. I guess I will have to take a closer look when they are released.

    What are you dissapointed about?

Since these pictures are out I'm going to address a few of the points. I don't have more information to give than this right now though.

The top three are of the 'Predator' line, the mouthguard (yellow piece) is a different material which is still flexible (black is very flexible, between Flex 7 and Profiler material) but more rigid so it stops shots in the centre face breaking your lips like it can with other goggles. The black is very soft in this level of mask, for glancing shots and bounces/comfort. In essence the whole faceplate is rigid enough to keep it's shape because of the way it is designed, with those channnels, but soft and flexible for comfort and fit and getting in close to your gun (it makes anyone in a Profiler look like a fat cheeked kid, and anyone in a Flex 7 look like a wide mouthed frog). The reduction in target it makes to your head is astounding. It has the same space where your head fits in and in front of your mouth for breathing, but none of the wasted space at the sides of your cheeks where you don't need it.

There aren't vents on the side because it was found they don't do much apart from make it harder to clean a goggle, and to actually cause paintballs to break on the hard edges, by removing them there was no loss to the anti fogging technologies implemented, but more paintballs glanced off, and the mask was easier to clean. The front of the mouth area is also soft enough to bounce a direct hit. Anything below the yellow frame you can see just below the lens is flexible, rigid enough to protect your nose and mouth but still flexible. It was actually intended to be a second material so it was more rigid while still flexing in order to absorb the energy of a direct paintball hit in the face/mouth to stop it hurting your mouth and the side effect is that not only does it save your mouth but 'can' bounce a hit from straight on. Not a bad side effect though...

There will be single and thermal lenses available.

This is the mid level version below. The faceplate is all one material which is still flexible but more rigid than the Predator series. It offers more protection from impacts but slightly less chances of glancing or bouncing balls (although the material is soft enough and the design still helps that to happen). The mouth guard is the same material and colour as the faceplate here so you don't get the 'Predator Fangs' look. It is still flexible in the mouth again to help take the energy out of any straight on shots that might bust your lips.

What these don't show you is how the lens works or some of the funky stuff inside. Not sure now that these are leaked if we are going to release more info or not. It's not supposed to be released until World Cup.

The lens system is a quick release system with some very advanced safety technology implemented. It's unlike anything else available.

If you don't like the 'Predator' series with the two tone, you can get black on black predator which just looks awesome (that's what I am wearing). Matched with the smoke lens it's got quite a style to it. Sick.

The sides look like poorly done V-Force masks and the front is creepy. Perhaps is wouldn't look as bad if it wasn't yellow (big contrast).

Peripheral vision concerns me. It doesn't look like it has much.

Plus, I'm a wuss and wear my flex-7 because it covers my neck/jawline more. I may be convinced to switch, though...

For the "thermal" version.. is it actually going to be two mated lenses like a Proflex, or will it be one pane like a Profiler?

Looks can be decieving. It has greater peripheral vision than anything else currently available. More than the profiler and Flex 7 (the two top goggles that were considered when this was designed). The lens wraps far far around your head. The side vision goes almost as far as where you can see the logo's on the side. It's beyond the point most people can look sideways and see their finger.

Does it protect your jaw line though, or flex up and let you take hits? This comes down to approx the same level as a Profiler, I'll need to check how that compares to the Flex 7. There is also another goggle at the lower end of the price spectrum (not shown yet) that comes down lower and gives significantly more coverage for those wusses who want it.

It will be a 'real' thermal lens with two panes. You will have option of a single pane lens comparable to profiler, or dual pane lens comparable to JT.

Lohman, should be some available at World Cup.

I like it so far. It provides another cool looking alternative to the Flex 7 and the Profiler. It all depends on the price, though.

Looks like it fits really tightly to the head. Sounds cool from your description, manike. How many colors will the top level model come in?

                          OK, let me re-phrase that.

Im disapointed in the styling.. I think they look alot like the vforce/profilers and was very much hoping that they would more closely resemble the old school Vents Predators/Rage.

Im sure that they work and are 'designed' well.

i think they look great, i like the no-puffy-cheeks. I got a narrow chin build so my flex7s are a good 2 inches away from the sides of my face

how's the msrp looking to be? 70ish?

It's nice to see an old name ressurected. I can fondly remember the days of my vents predators with the foamy-material pieces being held together by staples.
