is paintball a sport?

i truly belive that paintball is a sport.... but to prove all my friends wrong i need your thoughts... and my friends also belive that a sport is "somthing u cant be fat and be good at".....

It also almost became an olympic sport. However, we don't have a central IF (International Federation), so it didn't work. Just need a global governing body and we're set.

This has been discussed many times. The definitive way to determine whether or not it's a sport is to ask yourself, can I partake in this activity without significant risk of spilling my beer? If you attempt to play paintball while drinking a beer, then you will most likely spill it, therefore it's a sport, just like football and hockey. Bowling and golf are games because it's easy to drink beer without spillage while playing, in fact it's almost required. Now before all the golfers start complaining about how golf is a sport because it requires great skill, sorry but you're wrong. No one's saying that all games are easy or that they don't require great skills, but they are still games. The beer rule is infallible. The only exception is synchronized swimming which is neither game nor sport, it falls into it's own lame class which we will call activity. Diving and regular swimming qualify as sports.

I can't recall one instance of competitive 'dumping'.

Sport is defined as follows in the World Book Dictionary:
'1 a game, contest, or other pastime requiring some skill and usually a certain amount of physical exercise.'

Having a bowel movement is neither a game or a contest, is not a pass time, and unless you're digestive tract is very abnormal, to poop requires no skill or physical exercise.

Paintball is a sport and a competitive one at that. People make livings off of it. Granted there is the woodsball side where ma and pa take thier sons out for a good ole day in the woods but the same holds true for football or tennis, people play these sports liesurely as well.
I'm guessing you're friends are standard football-playing, ignorant, simple mined folk that won't accept something they don't do as a legitamate sport.
Is sitting in a tree stand with a rifle waiting for a deer to walk by so you can shoot it sport? Yes it is although I shudder to say so.
If they won't accept you're argument you might as well drop it because it won't be worth the effort.

Golf is actually becoming a sport to be fit in. Every professional golfer is looking for ways to be in better shape and hit the ball farther and more consistent. At least Tiger is in great shape.

I don't like to think of paintball as an extreme sport even though it's listed. Paintballs are not dangerous. The potential for injury is from running around and stuff. But if this qualifies... then Extreme Stairclimbing with Laces Untied (ESLU) would also be an extreme sport.

It's also a team sport... most extreme sports are done solo.
