I think it started like this. Couple guys are marking cattle with paint markers. One guy gets bored and shoots the other guy. He retaliates and starts shooting back. Others see it and want to give it a try. They get some shop goggles and go to town.Originally posted by Totenkopfverpaintball is art. it touches the soul and is beauty in my eyes. it was born of imagination
I don't think it has anything to do with art, beauty, or imagination... but rather, it has more to do with how guys like to throw rocks, shoot rubber bands at each other, and practice giving headlocks and wedgies.

not that i want to agree with the guy saying "taking a dump is a sport"...but my old college roommate and I used to take pictures of exceptional "movements" and e-mail them to each other in the name of competitiveness. Im sad to say that even with "the rim crawler" I still lost thus far
/shrug. its messed up, but there you have it.
*edit*
but yeah, paintball is a sport.
and btw, that thing about the beer....thank you for that amazing piece of wisdom. Never were truer words spoken. It's all so clear now. Beer ftw!!!Last edited by Kwaidd; 12-05-2005, 05:42 PM.

Me and some team mates have played soccer many a times without spilling a beer. True we were piss drunk but the factor of holding your beer while running and dribbling made it so much more of a thinking game.Originally posted by Eric CartmanThis has been discussed many times. The definitive way to determine whether or not it's a sport is to ask yourself, can I partake in this activity without significant risk of spilling my beer? If you attempt to play paintball while drinking a beer, then you will most likely spill it, therefore it's a sport, just like football and hockey. The beer rule is infallible.

Football is a peice of cake to play just try to be a lineman and never run or anything. OH and dont try to slap a beer aout of hand. We all know what will ensue from that.I am a declared Carb lover.

A sport isnt defined by stregth of muscle. Certain sports judge muscle and strength but almost all have no penalties due to being fat other than the possibility of not being as competative. Look at most of the pro paintball teams. They in general are in great shape, even more so for the front and mid players. As posted the definition of a sport either goes by the physical activity definition or the beer spillage definition. And I argue that golf isnt a sport. Take a full swing while holding a beer and see if non spills. Also try driving the cart after 18 holes of beer drinking without spillage of a beer.Last edited by benzy2; 12-05-2005, 08:01 PM.Why doesnt anything work for me.

Yeah, but the time spent actually swinging the club is a pretty minimal percentage of the time it takes to play 18 holes. You can drink easily for the rest of it. To avoid spillage on the cart, simply chug the first half of your beer. A half full beer is harder to spill than a full one.Originally posted by benzy2Take a full swing while holding a beer and see if non spills. OK but that's screwin' around, and there's nothing wrong with that, but if you're seriously playing either football or soccer, your risk of spillage is high enough to qualify as a sport. The same argument can be made regarding baseball, but not softball / slowpitch. Those are games and again, drinking is virtually required.Originally posted by gc82000Me and some team mates have played soccer many a times without spilling a beer. Definition (partial) of "game" directly from an online dictionary...
Quote:
activity engaged in for diversion or amusement : PLAY (2) : the equipment for a game b : often derisive or mocking jesting : FUN, SPORT
2 a : a procedure or strategy for gaining an end : TACTIC b : an illegal or shady scheme or maneuver : RACKET
3 a (1) : a physical or mental competition conducted according to rules with the participants in direct opposition to each other (2) : a division of a larger contest
I believe if more of us considered paintball a game, there might be fewer bad attitudes and problems associated with cheating.
I always have considered paintball a game rather than a sport. Of course, it is all relative to the level at which you participate. Professionals and tourney guys could claim it a sport, but I feel rec guys such as myself are just out there to play a game!

Curling (stone on ice) and Ping Pong are sports just like Paintball. Oh wait, Curlinga and Ping Pong are in the Olympics! Sorry, personally I consider paintball an activity or hobby.

I personally don't think it's a sport. My reasoning is that our equpiment does most of the work for us. I think paintball is around the same level as nascar; there is more equipment needed skills. Just my 2 cents.
