neck shots always worried me...though i have never been shot in the neck...i took a nice one to the forhead....golf ball sized not on my forhead for a week or so.....maybe i will get a neck protector as a prevenative measure....LOL....i don't care what i look like on the field...its not a fashion show...

far as that neck crap goes, if your friend gets a protector, hell probably just throw it on the side, as they really are irritating. take some iodine and that will clear up soon

i have only been shot in the throat once. i feel lucky i guess.
it was by my friend who only plays outlaw, and refuses to shoot under 300. i figure that since masks are rated to well over 300 fps i would be safe.
he bunkered me in the neck, i mean his barrel wasn't more than a foot away. that bastard stung for a while, and i didn't have a welt for more than a day. my welts go away fast.
i guess i dont find being shot by a paintball that bad; i've never shed a tear from being hit.

If I get hit in the hand or the neck I'm dancing arround in circles cussing like a salior. I'm really skinny so any shot goes straight to the bone.

but on the up side I can (and have) hide behind a power pole.

I am a RN. I doubt if a paintball at 300 feet/sec will do much damage to the solid structures of the throat( larnyx, trach). The problem is with the soft tissues mainly the corotid artery, jugular vein. thyroid (a big problem) and your sternocleomastoid (a small but strong muscle that helps hold up your head.) Of course trauma to these areas are usually subjucet to the size of the person being tagged. BUT, at worst case if you bruise the tissue over or involving the corotid or jugular, depending where you been hit could get knocked out or light headed due to sudden blood pressure shift. at very worst break one of these vessels an severly hemorrage. Not funny at all. The most likely injury to anyone is to the thyroid. This gland is made from very soft tissue and is easily injured if impacted. This gland controls metabolism for the most part and if injured, WILL mess you up. I ALWAYS wear a neck protector. If you injure your sternocleomastiod it will hurt like an SOB with the added benefit of not being able to raise you head for a day or so. Pm me if you want more info.
BTW children under the age of twelve should not be playing at all. If you have a skinny twelve year old or younger kid who just Has to play make sure they have some sort of chest protection. A PB could fi hit over the heart cause these kids to fibulate ther heart beat and that IS LIFE THREATING.
