Consider this also: you are playing in a tournament (airball I am hypothetically assuming) and you are hit in an area that if you were to check would give the other player you are watching a chance to move up the field. Is it the ref's responsibility to check you or is you checking yourself part of the game? I know I have called for a check before in this situation and checked myself but what do ya'll think?
Also, wiping is prevalent in tournaments and a lot of the time every team will do it. I personally have never wiped in an actual tournament but given the chance to get rid of an easy hit right after I see the guy I shot three times come out of his bunker again makes me have second thoughts. I don't enjoy wiping and I have rarely done it but in situations where every team you play is doing it, it almost seems necessary to win or at least makes me think what I could of done if the hit were to "dissapear."
