I can show you 3 or 4 of my past mil-sim set-ups. Each had more clearance than yours and still non was comfortable to play.

I use the red dot scope they sell at Dick's Sporting Goods for $30-$40 I can't recall the exact price. Works fine for me as a reference point , not precise aiming. The rail system it uses also fits both the narrow rails like a bb gun or .22 and the picatinny rails of the Tac-one. Hope this helps!

If you're really familiar with a feild set up what you could do is take a red dot, calibrate it for approximately the distance you want (eg the ball will hit that dot at 75 feet).

I used a pos viewloader triad and some home made tinkertoy kind of red dot and tried this with a bridge. It worked pretty well, as long as you keep it modest and as a "suggestion" instead of a target red dots can work well.

Scopes, if you're really into bushball, can be helpful to get a look ahead of you...But only for looking. Shooting with them is a bit useless.

A company called Cheaper Than Dirt has a large selection of scopes and sights and rings and all that stuff for short money. I think I got a 4X shotgun scope for a paintball gun there for about $8.

The thing about using a scope with a mask is something called eye relief. your eye has to be a certain distance from the scope to work well. The aforementioned shotgun scope has a long eye relief ... many shotgun scopes do ... so it happens to be that if I put the scope right up to my mask the eye relief is perfect. It's common to have an eye relief that's too short to be practical for your mask.

They way I usually mount it is that I only use the front scope ring, and hang the scope off the back of the gun, like so ...

I put that gun together for a goof, but you get the idea.

Now, the only thing a 4X scope is really good for is for woodsball and using it as a telescope. It works good for that though.

I'll admit it, I've put scopes on a marker before. No shame here.

There's no harm in trying it out but I would advise you not to purchase a scope specifically for paintball use. If you have an air rifle or something else to put the scope on when you get tired of it being on your marker, you won't waste your money. Also, don't worry about getting a high-dollar scope. TASO makes a nice 2x-9x adjustable that sells at Walmart/Kmart/etc for about $20. Ideal for both PB and BB gun use. Go with an oval (wide) objective lens if possible, it gives you more side-to-side viewing space. Again, $20 is about all you should have to spend.

Jaan has a good point - sometimes you want a longer set of eyes to see if there's someone on top of a hill, across a long field, in a heavily wooded treeline or the like. Treat your scope like a pair of binoculars that is simply smaller, lighter and not strapped to your neck. They work well in this way. Don't try to use one to aim.

We've all thought we've seen someone crouched behind a tree, snuck up on them from behind, patiently waited for an opening, made a move and shot... a rock. Having a scope will help you ID your opponents to make it easier for you decide where to move. I certainly won't tell you not to use one but I will suggest that you not bother trying to use it to aim.

                Good luck.
BTW, don't use laser pointers. I know they're cool but low-power ones won't work in the daytime and high-power ones are expensive. Neither is apropriate to be pointing at people you'd like not to injure. Most fields do not allow them for this reason.
                Before: "You're playing with WHAT?"
After: "Crap! It's that guy with the pump!"

I recommend the Simmons 30mm Red Dot sight. It's built very similar to the BSA one mentioned above but has several key advantages, IMHO. The rails can be flipped to accommodate both common rail types. Also, they include see-through lenses covers to protect the sight. I have two of these scopes and love them.

I've found that using good paint and taking the time to actually sight these at a certain range and velocity you can get very good accuracy. Definitely enough to hit hoppers and masks alike out to respectable distances. I'm not saying players can't do that without sights, but I like having the option.

                  Here are my rigs:

                  Lvl X TKO Automag PF/HL, Intelliframe, a Simmons 30mm Red Dot and a J&J 12" Ceramic barrel.

Check it out, lemme know what you think.

I think your tac would look good mounted on it.

I don't knw what scope would be best for you, but i know that in pump many people(not me though) find a red dot sight helpful when used correctly.

My first gun was a pump that I mounted a 7x scope on. It was fun, but i took it off because it elicited too many comments.

A 30mm ocluded is ur best bet but if you want a scope there is a Swat scope that's only magnified by 1.47 or something small like that good for paintball, any more magnification is just a waste.
