update
okay i have an update....but not a good one.
long story short, my order of the eye componets was returned back [by customs] to the manufacter and they just cancelled my order (refunding me) due to bad shipping paperwork on their end.
and as most of you know....in the past 2 weeks the darn U.S. market has gone down the tube. which in turn makes the U.S. $ worthless compared to other countries monatary. In this case the GBP.
but anywho, the bad news is that the eye componets will now cost a bit more then double price. which means i will have to raise the value of the boards by $11. making the price per board now $47.00.
sorry for the bad news. but nothing I can controll.

I think you might have you exchange rates backwards, the dollar as substantially strengthened vs the pound and Euro over the last 6 months - and is forecast to improve.

In addition, those eye components are only a couple L a piece and weight nothing, so this can't see this making that big a difference on $$. I think when I first sourced them a year or two ago (for my own x-mag ACE repair, some of which which were later sold to another forum member to prototype the successful replacement ACE boards) I think I bought 10 eyes for $50 shipped.
I guess what I'm trying to say is continue the project

Yes - it has made it better
A pound now costs less dollars.

when i bought the first time it was right on the peak then it when it hit bottom is when i bought the second batch (which will now be used for the first batch of orders). all i can say is i have the reciete that shows that it increased in price for the second order and it is correct.
but it wasnt just the eyes that rasied in price. I had the pots in the order too....and they went up too. both causing the $11 price increase in the boards.

yea, they may only wheigh a bit....but getting them here into the US is taking more. and i cant argue on shipping cost from them becuase they will only ship it one way to me and they are the only people that are willing to sell the exact eye used on the original ACE's to me. So i dont have any choice in this matter.
still going to make them. its just gonna be a bit more then first quoted for price. But hey, its still less then half the price of a original ACE (that KC is selling) and yet my will also include a full plug and play wire harness setup (something that KC's doesnt).Originally posted by UThomasI guess what I'm trying to say is continue the project
if anybody is upset with the price increase, then i understand and wont be hurt by you not buying. But i just dont have the money backing to just eat the loss. this is all coming out of my pocket right now for this project.

Well that's cool if you're going to stick with it. I can't imagine anyone bailing on an extra $10. If it helps - my original thread from mid 07 on finding the ACE components is here:
[email protected]
The Potentiometers I got from All Electronics in the states for $1.25 each and ~$10 shipping. Pricing doesn't appear to have changed.
So those might be some options for you if you're not looking at those sources - they are both in stock and both confirmed to work as exact replacements.Comment

theres where i started was with your thread. but a few things when i went to contact Val Jackson and the company.
1) Val must not be working there anymore... or they changed his email addy. tried 2 times to email him directly, and both times they just bounced right back.
2) tried to contact RS directly, but 3 weeks later i still havent gotten a reply.
so that left me to find the componets (same ones you have listed) through a different company. though a bit more pricy, its the only other place i found them.
And i admit, the their increased price isnt probably due to just the falling dollar.....but probably also has to do with them getting some of their money back on the loss of shipping to me with the first order. but i cant prove that....so nothing i can do about it other then increase the price of the boards.
BTW, to all that care about the exacts of the componets. the eye and pot are both exactly the same ones used on the original ACE's from AGD. So that should help explain why i am having such a hard time getting ahold of the parts......trying to stay with the exact same parts as AGD used. as with most of AGD's emag stuff.....its hard/pricy to get ahold of original parts.

Oh - that's a bummer. Let me see if I can contact them since I already have an account there. The IR eyes are the hard part since they aren't distributed in the US and aren't produced anymore. Keep up the good fight though!Comment

thanks, but dont worry about it. Already got a supplier and things rolling with them. so I am good to go as long as the darn company has the paper work in order this time.
and yup....they are deffintly the tuffest thing i had to track down for electrical componets i have needed. but the search is half the fun....you never know what you find or learn along the way.

Fried ACE board has been shipped to Chris for dimensional comparison work. Sounds like the holdup now is the parts being shipped back to the UK. Bottom line though - things are moving forward
