Im sorry but im not following how your earlier post responded to the link i posted, or how it adressed post-break issues.

actually, compressed foam can make a rather smooth surface, but yes, after a break youd pretty much haveto throw it away because any barrel cleaning might distort the foam. same problem w/ just shooting the darnn thing, the ball and air might distort the bore and even the smallest change could have drastic effects on accuracy.

the real problem is "pushing the ball through" and still getting a well formed bore. It would take a large, stable tool of some sort to do this right.

Another problem being that matching the bore to the exact diameter of the paintball will give you many a ball break and horrible accuracy, this could be solved by using standardized "ratio balls" bigger than the paint you are using but in accurate proportion to them.

So it could work, but the costs would FAR outweight the benefits, which are few and unoriginal.

Ii dont want to turn this dead thread into a barrel debate, but there are a few reasons why dye doesnt make the ideal barrel:

Yes, they are high quality and the microhoning is as good as any, but two piece barrels are no more accurate than one pieces and if anything have been shown to be less accurate, also the unnecessary porting means bad efficiency.

So, if you just cant do without a more quiet and flashy barrel and are willing to sacrifice a little efficiency and perhaps a bit of accuracy, then be my guest. but if you want a barrel that simply does what barrels are meant to do better than any other, buy a lapco.

    1) I don't have time to squeegie my barrel when I break... My Freak cleans out just fine with ONE shot...

    2) Compressed foam may have a soft, "smooth" surface, but that doesn't say anything about friction... It's never going to be nearly as slick as a metal barrel.

    3) The friction from having pressure SURROUNDING the ball in the barrel would cause TREMENDOUS drag. With a good paint match there should be only a few points of contact. Coat a barrel with powder, and then shoot a ball... You should pretty much just see the seams of the paintball... You want the most air resistance with the least friction. The friction from the foam would be absurd... This idea is deaad...

      1. Takes about 5 seconds to squeegie a barrel, you must play one hell of a fast paced game to not have time to do something that keeps your shots from flying in any direction they whim.

      2. As you mentioned, fewest points of contact are ideal. Have there been any tests as to whether a smooth plastic/foam surface would perform comparably to a metal one? Brass eagles plastic barreled models apparently do ok...

      3. Im not sure what your getting at, what i think your saying is something i stated twice in this post. please specify
" The friction from having pressure SURROUNDING the ball in the barrel would cause TREMENDOUS drag"
... are you talking about barrel pressure or air pressure?

IF your talking about barrel-bore matching then maby you should READ my post before you critique it.

Meant to quote someone else's post but quoted yours and went off on that
        Silly me...

The fact is that I don't have time to squeegie while I'm playing... My job as a front player is to keep on the ball the whole time... I have to take a shot as I see it, and continually be moving... I have to cross up the field, and aviod getting taken out at all costs... A broken ball is nothing to me... My barrel cleans out on the first shot and shoots just as straight as before I chopped... I can't be sqeegeeing my barrel while I get bunkered... I just have to keep on shooting...
