2) Compressed foam may have a soft, "smooth" surface, but that doesn't say anything about friction... It's never going to be nearly as slick as a metal barrel.
3) The friction from having pressure SURROUNDING the ball in the barrel would cause TREMENDOUS drag. With a good paint match there should be only a few points of contact. Coat a barrel with powder, and then shoot a ball... You should pretty much just see the seams of the paintball... You want the most air resistance with the least friction. The friction from the foam would be absurd... This idea is deaad...
