    Me and the Glock (26)

I'll start out right away by saying I have never been a big fan of any Glock made. To me they are slightly too big, a touch clunky, and have always seemed too spartan for my tastes.

Face it, I like a touch of flash. My Kimber Ultra Carry in .45 is a Kimber .

My Sig Sauer in .357 is a Sig - and its a .357 SIG. Its "natural" accuracy to me is incredible. Point and shoot.

Even my S+W .38 revolver is stainless and has just a hint of that class.

I never would have considered a Glock. I went to the range just to look a bit. I toyed with a Smith M+P, I toyed some with a Kahr. I looked at a couple H+Ks. I didn't like the Kahr, at all. It seemed a bit heavy in everything, from trigger pull to slide action.

Frankly... I've always thought of myself as "better" than a Glock

My girlfriend decided she wanted to shoot a gun. I decided to leave my Kimber in the car and shoot something more manageable for her. I decided to shoot a Glock, perhaps a full size. They didn't have one but gave me a Glock 26 (the baby Glock in 9MM) to shoot. Not ideal but I decided it would do for the indoor range.

Understand this is a pretty small handgun, a pretty short barrel. She shot her fill of rounds through it (about 10) and I fired the rest out of this little gun. That gives me about 90 shots.

I shot at 7 yards and was rather surprised by the performance of the gun, it did not group like my Kimber does, but the accuracy was functional. So I ran it out to 15 yards with very similiar results. I kicked it out to 25 yards (range max) and fired a couple clips at that range.

In 90 rounds with a mix of ranges (7, 15, 25) with the exception of one flier, with cheap ammo and a rental gun I was not familiar with I did not have any shots outside of the 7 ring. She had wanted silohette targets for fun. I had told her when starting you don't shoot for the head - too small of a target. I put a clip through at 7 yards and another at 15 without putting any shots outside of the 10 ring taking aimed headshots.

The gun was not tremendous. My Kimber would have grouped the shots better, and offers more knock down power.

However, I was impressed. Functional accuracy. The 9MM is enough. I considered the .40 but I already have a .40. I ended up leaving with one. A bit of range time and this may find itself being a normal carry gun. Its tough, not prone to wear, simple to use, and good enough it seems. Night sights and all and this was still under a $500 gun.

    Yeh, I left with one

    Oh, the shame your mother must bear . . . . . .

Owning a Glock is like ridin' a fat chick: Sure, it can be fun, but it's not something you brag to your buddies about.

If I had to own a plastic pistol (and frankly, at this point, that's still up in the air), my first choice would be a Springfield XD.

But good on ya for owning up to it. They say the first step to healing is admitting that you have a problem . . . . .

I actually thought about the XD in my consideration.

There have been a lot of guns that were going to "overcome" the Glock. The Smith and Wesson Sigma (that was so close it actually could interchange with a Glock frame), the XD, the Kahr, the S+W MP. The key was a lot of great manufacturers have taken a shot at the Glock and seem to have fallen short.

I shoot a H&K USP .40 and wouldnt shoot anything else.

I will say Ive shot a couple of Glocks I liked. The grip angle is a little weird for me though.

I have shot many, but my GLOCK is by far my favorite... Out of the box it never missed a beat...

I shot a XD a few times, not too bad, most GLOCK buddies I know would own one as their primary if GLOCK did not exist...

and my Kimber, oh baby, trigger is sooooooooooo sweet, BUT I do have occasional glitches...

Hence, GLOCk, for the price and performance out of the box... I found it hard to beat...

Should see my Smith Airweight I got rid of my titanium Taurus after a misfire in my hand.

I like the Kimber, but there are days I just am not comfortable with cocked and locked.

The backstrap on the Glock chews into my hand. That, and their takedown can be a bear. Other than that, not bad guns. There is definately better out there, but Glocks aren't bad. They just aren't the uber guns everyone makes them out to be.

On another note, I have a P229, and I think it's a gigantic turd compared to the german made 228 and 226 I have. Quality at sig went right down the toilet. I don't pay for the 229, but I'll probably lay out my own cash for an H&K P2000SK. Of the choices I have (Glock, Beretta, Smith, and Sig) nothing comes close, IMHO.

The only thing I would caution anyone about is carrying too many different kinds of guns. The method of operation between a 1911 and a glock is so different that muscle memory for one doesnt work with the other. I plan on carryone only one gun, ever. At most, I'd have two different carry guns, but both from the same family, like a P226 and P228, or a USP and a USP compact, or a G26 and a G19.

If I practice with the Glock and decide that it replaces the Kimber than the switches will be between the Glock, the S+W revolver, and a Kel-tec (in the instances I want something in a pocket). It will actually get the one "odd" one out of the stable as far as trigger mechanics are concerned. Not sure yet, need some range time.

No doubt there are likely better options in every category than the Glock but with the functional accuracy (especially for a gun that size) I found with the Glock I am thinking it might be very well suited for carry. There should be no reason I am ever attempting to fire my concealed gun over 25 yards.

Unless you have the NY trigger group, the pull on the glock is so light it's hard to NOT be accurate. It points well, and the pull is light, and that equals good accuracy and good grouping.

I LOVE my glock. I have a glock 19 (midsize 9mm). Its light holds 14+1... and can hold a whole lot... I love the 30rd mag.

I was out shooting a few months ago and I was shooting open sight at about 225yds. I had a bunch of clay pigeons set up out there. mostly as a joke with the guys I was with I took a shot at one with my glock... and I kid you not, when I looked the target wasnt out there. I was like . Serious!? So I went and set up more, and it seemed like I was hitting about a 8inch circle... so whats that... 3.5MOA. It seems insane but in about 1 or 2 shots I can hit that thing.

IDK Im still not too good with it up close. Go figure.
