What made me get concerned about carrying a 1911 cock and locked. I pulled my Kimber out to set it in the safe the other day and somehow in the course of the day the safety had disengaged. I was carrying in condition .5 or whatever you want to consider cocked and unlocked with that light trigger. Since that day I have been carrying a Smith .38 shrouded revolver

I had the smith drop in the New York 2 trigger group into my 26 - upping the pull to 11 pounds. The GF wants to shoot with me now. We shot a Sig in .380, the P229? in 9mm, my Kimber, a long nose 38, a H+K USP (9mm), a Glock 23?? in 40 (whatever the full size 40 is), a XD, a 45 Glock (the full size), and a Glock 17C. Understand this is strictly a range gun, no holster duty expected. She liked the 17C - the compensated 9MM is as close to the 22 she learned to shoot with as one could get and not be buying a 22.

Just for the record - I despise the way 40's shoot in polymer guns. They are incredibly "snappy" in recoil. The 45 may measure more recoil, but there is a distinct difference that makes it shootable.

So... somehow in the past two weeks I ended up with a pair of Glocks. Just for the record, with the compensated full size Glock I was grouping shots in the 9 and 10 ring at 15 yards, with just a touch more at 25.

You are 100% correct, .40 has a very sharp recoil, and it's killer in smaller, lighter guns. I think a compensated large frame 9mm is a great range gun.

AGREED. I can shoot just about any caliber, BUT, When looking for my GLOCK, I ended up getting the G-19 (9mm) for a few reasons.

1) Cheaper Ammo, more practice.
2) Anything Bigger would discourage the wifey from wanting to shoot.
3) Snappy Recoil.

I feel confident carrying 9mm. I have good training, which I will always continue to improve myself.

I carry Remington Golden Sabre's HP 124+P... It has proven to feed well, good ballistics (by outside testing), and LOW FLASH. <----- I mention the flash because statistically most incidents of self defense happen in low light conditions. Having ammunition that has less flash means your eyes will adjust BACK after firing a round much sooner... and of course we all wanna keep an eye on our target/intruder/etc...

I'd much rather go straight to a .45 then to a .40... the recoil on a .45 pushes more into your palm rather then snap up like the .40...

Thats my PX4 in 40 next to my Glock 19. Its pretty sick. It holds the same amount of 40 as the glock holds 9, and its not that much larger. I still like the glock over the beretta (kicking my own rear for saying that, but whatever)

Ditched the New York 2 trigger and put in the New York 1 trigger group. The NY2 was too much pull and had me putting shots wide and high to the right.

Put about 500 shots through the G26 and about 300 through the G17C today. I'm pleased with the performance of both. The G17C rivals accuracy of my Kimber and might even surpass it as I get more used to it - I like the shooting characteristics all the way out on the 25 yard range I was working at and can place shots to my liking. Haven't found the holster I want for the 26 yet but another range session and I can feel comfortable working towards it being a holster duty weapon.

Toyed around with an HK USP today some too. At this point I left it be though, don't want to complicate a learning curve on the Glocks.

The G19 will hold 15+1

New York State has a ban on pistol magazines with any greater capacity then 10, UNLESS you happen to have a PRE-BAN, PRE SEPT '94 High Cap Mag... I happen to have both... 10's and 15 rounders, but due to weight, I usually carry the 10.

Does your state have a restriction or do you only have the 10 round mag...?

If you were talking about capacity of your G26, you standard magazine capacity is 10+1, BUT, it will take bigger mags, they will just stick out the bottom of the grip... 33 Round Magazine is the biggest made that I know of... Well, other then a drum mag...
