I'm pretty sure it was done before then too, but the North Hollywood shooting certainly made it more relevant.Originally posted by Lohman446I assume it came into style after the LA shoot-out a few years back?Comment

If you're going to get anything out of this thread at all, know that everything in this post is completely ridiculous. This is the post of a true idiot.Originally posted by dauntless15wel how old is your daugther . if she is like 14 or older you should look into a kel tech - small guns that pack a punch , i think they are 9 mil and i htink they have a 45 version . but a kel tech is small and fast fireing with 7 round chaber ( i belive ) but if you want top protection go get a freking glock and blow that perps head off . if he comes into your house you kill him on the spot so he cant testify against you in court and lie about it . any well aimed shot will do with any gun . even a 1200 fps bb gun . be safe

This thread reminds me of the soldier in Iraq that came around the corner and took a 9mm Beretta in the face, then proceeded to pull his gun up on the insurgent who promptly surrendered. They figured out soon after that it hit his front teeth and lodged where they used to be. Some charitable dentists made a new pair for free.Originally posted by Target PracticeIf you're going to get anything out of this thread at all, know that everything in this post is completely ridiculous. What are you, 12?
That has to be discouraging. Shoot a guy in the face and he just draws on you.

for home defense i recomend a shotgun, it is simple and reliable. and i can tell you that if you hit them with anything coming out of the business end of a firearm, harming you or your family will be the last thing of the list of thier worries, i can say from a few hunting accidents that i have witnessed.Comment

heading to the range Monday evening to try out a few things. Will likely pick up a shotgun afterwards.Comment

What are yalls thoughts on Gun Shows and used guns? What kind of things should I be on the look out for when looking at a used gun?
right now I am still thinking about a Beretta 92fsComment

Gun shows have good prices and more trade opportunities. New and surplus are good there, but used is used and you have to be careful. Some tables will get guns and trade them off the same day, so no one has checked the gun in between (which may not happen anyway).Originally posted by thecavemankevinWhat are yalls thoughts on Gun Shows and used guns? For used guns I stick to the ones I've had apart in my hands or I am willing to use the one I am buying to learn with. Other than that, the shows give you a lot of side by side weight, size and grip comparison. However, if the table is not a local shop, don't expect any service afterward.Comment

Its like buying used cars on impulse at auction (obviously its not an auction format) without a test drive (and yeh, thats how you buy cars at the auctions I buy from). You better have someone with you who has the time, ability, and inclination to help you out."Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. With the 92 buying used should be OK. Just take it apart and look for excessive wear, if its in good shape on the slide, in the breach, and back of the barrel than that it really should be fine.Comment

92 is a good gun. I might go for the "centurion" model due to it's more managable size.Comment

I'd pass on the 92 and get a Taurus copy.
99% of the gun that the Beretta is with only 66% of the pricetag.
They really are nice guns for the one's I've handled/shot. But, if beretta's your thing and you don't mind the extra green go for it!
IMO the whole M9/99/92 series is too bulky for what they give you. It's 16 shot 9mm that rivals a Para P14 in form factor.
I'd rather own something that gives equal utility in a smaller/lighter package like a G19 or something.
The only reason I see the Beretta/Taurus appealing is for attaching a more compact suppressor to the nontiltng barrel.Comment
