AO: We are back from the dead... again! After an 18 day outage, we are finally alive and well. Who knew how complicated updating software/databases from 2008 would be. I still have alot of tweaks to make, but my main goal was getting everything patched and updated to 2026.
Vbulletin 6 has changed alot since 2008 so we will have a ton of new features to dig into.
To be honest, I'm actually kind of surprised AO is still here in the first place. It's not a terribly large forum with a huge membership and active posting compared to other forums on the net. That being said, I suppose having pay perks would be nice depending on how much and what you got for it. Whether you pay or not you should be allowed a small sig. Not allowing sigs is ridiculous to begin with and I have always felt that way. As long as they were kept to a minimum size and acceptable content, and enforced, then what's the difference? Sure, they require a bit more bandwidth to process but I say either go all out or go home with this site. To me, AO needs something to shake it up...make it more fresh...because it hasn't felt that way for me in years.
Posting has dropped off substancially in the last 2 years, but that's no reason to just forget about our old faithful, this is still home to a lot of us and with a wealth of information
Yeah, too bad of those 60k, probably 10 still post.
Exactly. AO is anywhere from 3 to 7 years older than many of those forums, though. That's years of people signing up, asking a few questions or buying a few things, then never coming back. It's also physically (...you know what I mean) smaller in that it doesn't have have as many subforums. If you look at the B/S/T and the OT it's just not as... "big" for lack of a better word.
Perhaps Beemer has some sort of tool that'll tell us how many regular posters we have?
