It's been discussed before without ever going through...

It's not our place to push for it; we'd just be forking over cash, the moderators and AGD would be doing all the work. I think there are a lot of us who would like to see it happen, but in the long run it's not our decision to make. If they do go through with it, that'd be awesome, but if not, I'm sure there's a good reason (or reasoning) behind it.

I completely agree; it was more aimed at Army and Beemer. I voted no in the poll because i don't have the cash to spare currently, but if it did happen i would pay if it was reasonable when i did have the means.

I think it is our place to push for changes, otherwise changes may never happen, but I do agree that in the long run it isn't our decision to make. The only decision we have in this is whether or not to participate in the forum.

So what makes AO a worthwhile forum?

If giving some people a "stake" in the forum to keep it up is worthwhile, I say go for it.

I am, by no means, any sort of a webmaster and haven't the first clue at running a website, but I figure that there has to be some technology that makes it easier and smoother than it is now.

AO might have 60K member signed up, but that's irrelevant. Those 60K aren't posting regularly. The point is, AO isn't what is was in say, 2003. It was an internet community where not only did people have personality and enjoy discussing things online, they also met up in real life often. I went to an AO/MO meet up that year and it was pretty cool. Since that time, AO has dropped, and dropped, and dropped in posting, "freshness" and an overall lack of personality and activism. Where's Shartley? Capo? Miscue? LoadSM5? Havoc_Online? People like this were staples here and now we have none of that....not that anyone is really here to notice. Other paintball forums might be smaller (or larger), and they might have a crappy set up or lots of schlock on their forums (like PBN), but at least they get traffic and discussion. If websites got cobwebs, AO would have them like a treasure room in an Indiana Jones movie.

What happens here makes the topic of the day on other sites.
Thats why this site should be upgraded.
This site isnt just here to post your used markers/parts for sale.
                        Its for thought provoking discussion.
This site isnt filled with teenagers trying to up their post count
by posting inane comments that dont add to the threads content
or to the discussion at hand.

                                You have fuzzy math.

Heres a clue for ya. More folks lurk to read what ten will post, then to join and post.
No, I meant 10k different posters over the last couple years of AO's decline.

I was giving a high estimate to err on the side of caution

Also: Maybe more people would Join if you didnt have closed registration with one or two people validating emails at the speed of two snails gettin' it on.

How many threads have we seen here since that's been implemented "HEY MY FRIEND IS TRYING TO JOIN, AND NOBODY HAS EMAILED HIM BACK YET."

Now, if we've seen a few of those, how many of those people attempting to register dont have friends on AO to post these threads?
