Dayspring, while I've got nothing but love for your choice to shoot me from ~1 mile away, I'm partial to these puppies . One helluva rush to shoot.

Check out Tanfoglio. Highly underrated firearms. Very solid, comfortable and quite inexpensive. The only handgun I enjoy more at this point is a good H&K. I even like the better then the sig's I've used. As for caliber's I'd shy away from a few. A .40 S&W is good, .45 is good, 10mm is best. Trust me, 10mm is an amazing, but often overlooked round. A bit expensive for plinking, but pick up a 22 conversion and you're good to go.
