LOL How you know me not. And you know what? Things have not changed as much as you think they have. But that is the most popular "battle cry" for younger folks. (And usually by those who know virtually NOTHING about the past. Or the things they THINK have changed. )

Oh.. and I was the one who brought up about being Popular.. not him. And I did not say he wanted to do things to BE popular. I was making a point aside from his main issue, but directly related to the "nerd" comment.

I had to check the age in the profile for our new friend here, and my guess was right on.

Maybe I was lucky. I realized my parents were looking out for my best interests at a younger age than most. Working with your parents will get you a heck of a lot farther than doing stuff just to make them mad.

And who the heck would want to "hang out with a different crowd" if they wont accept you without piercings and some stupid haircut?

Btw- calm down... You're forgeting, most of the people you have responded to HAVE been where you are! Some may have even had the same attitude you have... until they finally got enlightened! InfinityBPS- As said before your parents don't want you to get a piercing or tat as you may regret it later on.. I mean afterall they ARE permanent. Once you get older.. like 17-18 and your hormones have finally calmed down.. maybe then you'll know FOR SURE thats what you want. Until then... just take it one day at a time.. and respect your parents wishes.. afterall they have raised you and it seems they did a pretty good job. They know what they're doing, let them be parents, you be the child and listen to them.

My personal look on it.. is when I was in school I never tried to dress like someone else, never tried to fit in with any crowd. If a crowd accepted me for WHO I was, Hey thats great. If they didn't oh well, their loss... I wouldn't have cared if NO ONE talked to me as I was being myself.

One thing I noticed when I was in school....There is conformity in non-conformity.

Everyone was trying to be different...and in that...they were all really the same. Same "gotta be different" attitude, same "gotta be differnent" dress, same "gotta be different" blah blah blah. But hey, they had themselves fooled...big time. They thought that they were the cheese. "Look at me, no one ever has done what I'm doing!"

Wanna know what they are doing now? Working decent jobs, getting married, raising families, etc. All that "gotta be different" crap has somehow lost its significance compared to making a living.

It seems there are stages in life:

Grade School -- Everyone plays at recess

Middle School -- Almost everyone plays at recess

Jr. High -- What's recess? I'm cool/dork/jock/nerd

Sr. High(lower class) -- Look at me!! I'm in highschool. I'm soooo cool

Sr. High(upper class) -- Look at me. I defy the system. I am cool. I KNOW EVERYTHING. Everyone who is not me is dork.

College -- Ummmmm...dude....where's the beer? Did you know you don't have to buy books with your student loan and you can buy beer?

Married(no children) -- We are sooo in love. Honey lets go to alaska this weekend.

Married(with children) -- Uhhhh what happened? Honey, you wanna watch CBS tonight? It's a date! Kids get to bed!

When you get out into the real world, being in highschool will seem to you like what being in grade school seems like now.

I got the same treatment as you, only i was allowed to go to parties. My parents were pretty liberal though.

They did tell me that if i came home with a piercing or a tatoo, it'd get removed. I came home with 2 tatoos and they were pissed but they didn't hurt me. My mom thought my dyed hair (black) looked nice. Better than the "nasty" dreds i used to sport. A little later on my mom found out i had my nips pierced, she just yelped, then pointed and laughed. Kinda funny. I had moved out by that point.

The good thing is that i broke my parents in for my little sister. Now she can do pretty much anything without the screams and disapointment.

Anyway, i still have my piercings and am still happy with my tatoos (been thinking of getting more), and am going to hit the drugstore to buy some more hairdye. I don't go to skool, i work for a living and i hardly leave my house. I do this because I like to look like that. I don't think i'm cool, or it makes me any cooler than i was before. I'm quite a nerd. But i'm MY nerd.

I say screw trying to impress people, if they don't like you for who you are they can get bent.

frausty - You obviouslt dont know me I dont wanna brag (I guess you would call it that) but I am probly more grown up than anyone at our school. I will NEVER do anything because its popular (drink, weed, dumb crap...) and dumb *** teenagers think its "cool." I wont even listen to popular music, and REFUSE to watch teen movies. BLAF!
