ID is neccisay in life, no denying. The problem comes when your ID need to be hanging around your neck instead of in your wallet. To have such strict rules as the thread started mentioned is going too far. I live in the Wayzata school district which I believe is that largest in the country with something like 900 kids in each grade. Wayzata's ID's are just cards like any other ID. Making a student wear the card gives the idea that the student's number might be more importent than the student

That's what I'm saying, though. At my job, we have to have our ID cards visible. This is one of those things about which I don't understand quite why teens get so cranky, other than the fact that it's a requirement being imposed on you and you're at a point in your life when you automatically recoil against it. I mean, really...get over yourself, it's just a freakin' plastic card that has your name and picture. Your teachers aren't going to care about your number, but if you've got 900 kids per grade, they need every bit of help they can get matching faces to names.

Make stickers that say Whereing your ID Card is supporting Communism. Then hand them out all over school. Now think of how long it is going to take the faculty to peel them off the walls, lockers, stalls, mirrors, etc.

Getting into this a bit late, but still.

Trigger_Happy, its nice to see someone who's so adamant about their beliefs that they fail to recognize when they could be wrong. You think that the answer to failing public schools is to take money away from those schools? Which of course leaves those people who cannot afford private schooling, to be educated in the public schools you abandoned. How terribly elitist of you.

[rant]We dont little changes, we need gigantic monumental changes. Schools should be palaces. The competition for the best teachers should be fierce. They should be making six figure salaries. Schools should be incredibley expensive for government and entirely free to it's citizens. Just like national defense.[/rant]

well, in a valiant attempt to get them taken away, we had id tag wars. everyone that wanted to fight stripped down to a t-shirt, then... each person held on to the other persons hand, so they only had one arm to swing the card with, then its pretty much self explanitory, wack the crap out of the person your fighting. it ended up with welts/blood. we went to the office and showed them what had happened, then asked how it was providing a "safe" school environment for kids. of course we didnt tell them that we did it to each other intentionally. they did nothing at all... i then proceeded to cut a picture of micheal jackson out of a newspaper, and glued it onto my id. now i have to buy a new one next time a teacher asks to see it (which is every 5 minutes).

the sticker idea is good, where can i buy customized stickers?

WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT, SirLloydAlexander!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You obviously have no idea what I was suggesting, so please try to understand what I'm saying before spouting off some kind of unreasonable plan that would be impossible to afford!

You must understand that it costs almost $7,000 a year per kid to put them in a public school! The average private school is $4,000. To shut down the public schools would put almost $7,000 in YOUR pocket! Can ANYBODY (even "those people who cannot afford private schooling") afford a $4,000 tuition when given $7,000? YES! And the level of quality actually rises at a private school! The only reason that we are forced to pay nearly $7,000, is because polititions are so good at wasting it on things! :)

On the other hand, can YOU as a taxpayer afford to build the freakish temples you suggested? Or maybe pay teachers the 6 figure salerys you proposed? Are you made of money? Do you think the US, that now is in several trillion dollars of debt can afford your plan?

Please try to think through what you say, before looking stupid by flaming others!

Wow. Don't know where to start. So your saying a public school teacher, say HS physical science, should be making a six figure salary?

Second, schools should be free to citizens and incredibley expensive for the government? Where do you propose the government gets their money? Governments aren't financially self-sustaining entities, nor do they have a viable income source other then taxation. Anything they buy, you paid for. I suppose you could say they could just print the money they need, but that would lead to staggaring inflation. Inflation generally hits the working class society hardest and eliminates the middle class. Which coincidently would make an elitest and serf type society, precisely what you were hoping to avoid.

Quite frankly I think one of the biggest problems with public schooling is that it seems to be run by individuals who think every student needs to go to college. Hey, guess what, they don't. Some students don't want to and some simply don't have the mental capacity for it. Give them the basics and teach them a skill. Let them come out of school being a craftsman of some sort.

Could be. Seems like the beginning of a regurgitation stage though. Not that all 18-19 year olds go through it. But many seem to accept, without question, the beliefs of their professors and favorite teachers.
