civics and acords are great economy cars. The accord also has a nice interior, and its got some power for comfortably passing on the highway and stuff (something my big ole pick up lacks)

just to give you a little hint on the gas mileage:

I have a big block (really big block for a six) inline six. This is the smallest engine they put in the F-150. Keep in mind the 5.0L is actually a 4.9L at 302ci. the 4.9L six is 300ci. I'm not sure but i think the v8 302 gets better gas mileage. It has better pickup, and is a great road engine, but the six is just awesome for bottom end torque and offroading fun. I WISH i could get 20mpg. That would make my day. Well it would make any day that i filled up the truck.

    good luck

My truck is louder than yours. A lot louder.

any pre 90 dodge truck is a good buy. if your driving a lot, get one with a 318, but if you want to go play, find a 4x4 low gear power wagon with a lift kit, and 360 or some BB in it. and you wont need to worry about passing cuz you can just run over any civic or anything. yeah gas might be more costly, but anything ever goes wrong with it you can go to the local junkyard and get the part you need for like 10 bucks, and not have to order it from japan and wait a couple weeks for it.
but if your not a truck person, then a buick le saber is a real nice first car. they might be a old folks car, but cops dont pay any notice to them

        ROFLMAO! That's tight man!

If you're looking for economy, go for a Honda. If you can't afford a Honda, shoot for a Cavalier or comparable J body. The only thing that seperates a Cavalier from a Civic is that it's slightly less reliable in some cases and the parts are MUCH cheaper.

On a $6000-9000 budget I would look at a used Toyota truck for the utility aspect of things. They are work horses, take a beating and easy to maintain. Put a camper shell on and even better.

                    oh c'mon

You guys are overlooking quite possibly the best vehicle ever made. An AMC Eagle Staion Wagon. With 4WD. Very fun cars in winter.

But, with that much cash there's some vehicles I'd look at. Either a Toyota pickup, or a Jeep Wrangler. You might even be able to pickup a late 90's izuzu trooper. The late 90's look very sweet. And can haul your gear, and a couple of teamates if comfort.
