Ricers?

I think that a person that can build a 160mph+ vehicle out of what used to be a 4 cylnder honda grocery getter that used to haev a top speed of maybe 80 mph should not be mocked or made fun of. That is one hell of an accomplishment. I don't care if it makes a whiney sound when it's going down the street... speed is speed.

Oh and getting 40MPG isn't bad either. Unlike American muscle cars of the day wich, yes, could do the same speed... yet get 10 miles to the gallon. I always say "I would never want a car, no matter how powerful, that had such bad gas milage that you could watch the fuel needle drop while sitting at a stoplight.


I do however see no problem in ridiculing those who think that adding a rear spoiler and some stickers to their car makes their car go faster.

I think allot of this is semantics...People are gonna do what makes them happy...If thats building an "All Show car" then so be it, a hybrid of the two, fine. An all out race car...Ok. See, everyone races against everyone. I've raced a 12 second jeep wrangler for god's sake! Import Tuner's(As we liked to be called) don't just race other Imports and that goes the same for Muscle cars. To each his own. No, i don't like the guy...or girl who puts a loud Muffler...yes muffler, and not full exhaust on there car(See a full exhaust will net u some Hp gain, not just a loud muffler at the end of a small exhaust), wing and forty stickers and calls it fast. THATS THE PROBLEM, THE REAL DEFINITON OF A RICER IS SOMEONE WHO THINKS THEIR FAST ANd ARE NOT. If there intention was to build a show car...COOL, it's a show car, not a race car.

To clarify: Civic SI's, Integra ITR's, GST's, GSX's RSX, STI, EVO, 240's etc...These ARE RACE CARS or SPORTS CARS. Anyone who thinks they aren't would be dead wrong. U don't think Sylvia's or Skylines aren't race cars? Give me a new Viper and a Skyline GTR in the twisties...I'll tell u who the winner would be, and it's not the Viper. Oh and reliability with a VIPER...HAHAHAHA ur kidding? There is a reason why u don't see to many old school original Vipers, they fell apart...C'mon, this is Dodge were talking about.
Just becuase someone puts 10k into a Civic and makes it faster than an LS1 doesn't mean it's not a Civic...Ur comparison doesn't work. U put a turbo on it...It's now a turbo civic SI...Supercharge it, It's now a blown Civic SI. Sorry just beacuse I have aftermarket parts under my hood doesn't make it any less a civic. Taking the body off and putting a Lambroghini body kit on it...yes, that changes things...It now becomes a kit car. A blown civic a kit car is not...

Speed is speed, and show is show...The real problem is when someone thinks their fast and aren't. That in lies the Ricer. And don't get me wrong, I have an 11 second 78' Camaro as well as a 13 second Eclipse GST of which the latter is no slouch when it comes to matching up against some of todays best muscle cars IE: C5's and Ls1's...it is all a matter of personal preference to which cars u would like to own. Taking 7k and buying my GST, putting 2k into the engine gave me mid 13's on pump gas, enough juice to hang with allot of cars way out of it's price range, and I get better gas mileage than those cars to boot...And it's still an Eclipse. I wanted to see if I could build a fast car out of an already pretty quick platform(4G63 Engine Block)...I call that an accomplishment. Just like taking an LS1, putting heads, cam, catback and blower and getting 400 to the crank...It's a faster car and an accomplishment. Take the new STI for example...Mid to high 13 second car out of the box...put an intake MBC and full exhaust and ur in the high twelves for less than a grand. Mid 12's = Viper territory...Whats a Viper 80k...Vs my 9k...U do the math. Plus while were at it, for 80k I'd much rather haven an M5 or a Carrera 4 or a 95' F355 or a 96' Berlinetta all which can be had for 80k or less...Viper who?

FAST IS FAST...Get it straight...Fast import cars are just that, FAST cars, not fast IMPORT cars...Muscle cars are just that, fast cars,not fast muscle cars exotics and so on... Ricers are people with ANY type of car that think 16.5 is fast or think there multidirectional wing provides down force at 70mph.

What bugs me most about 'ricers' is the thousands of stickers, most of which advertise products not installed on the vehicle! I've seen cars advertising 4 or 5 different high-end tires (Kuhmo, Yokohama, Falken, etc.) and the car was running Generals. And don't even get me started on cars with the NOS stickers everywhere without a clue on what NOS is, let alone how to install it.

By all means, if you want to advertise that you use X Y or Z, go for it. Just make sure it's really there!

Incidentally, I own one Toyota, a 4Runner. I wouldn't even think of labeling it with anything, no matter what performance parts I install. (The only thing it's destined for as of this moment is the TRD 2nd gen supercharger, and I wouldn't advertise that one either. It's more fun to surprise people!)

See this whole conversation proves that the tearm "Ricer" has grown way out of proportion, and sometimes it just sucks owning a foregn car. But i tell you what, i love this car more than anything, and theres nothing else id buy for this amount of money.

People at work have called my car a ricer. My dads friend calls my car a ricer, just cause he has a bran new Mustang GT. Little does he know i can almost take him in the 1/4 mile.

I hate the fact that people think i drive a "ricer" jsut because its foregn. Heck if i could find a 2 seater american car that looked this good, handled this good and accelerated this hard, id buy it. My car has a 2.0 turbo with 200hp and 200 ft lbs tourque stock, and thats besides my mods.

I dont want to be labled a ricer!

what i dont get is how tricked out civics can have as much horse power as a tricked out camaro, i know the tricked out camaro would take it because it has way more torque but still an 8 vs a 4 and still have same amount of power. i think if it is the technology they should apply it to the 8 cylenders... hehe that sounds funny "i got a v8 5.7L VTEC "

they don't need to have V8's, thats why they don't have them. When a Skyline can have 1200, yes 1200, horsepower what's the point of two more cylinders? It would be like back to the future, you floor it and end up in the old west. Or a daily driven Supra can have 550 with a turbo upgrade

Nice Mr2, not to mention the NSX (mmmmm...NSX). I've got an 85 Supra (nt, the only problem) and wouldn't trade it for anything except a MarkIV Supra

Exacly, and my MR2 can have as much as 400+ hp with less than 5 grand. And thats fun in a 2700lb car!

The same is true with exautic cars. They are not "muscle" cars eaither
