As President Jimmy Carter told Congress in 1977:

"Penalties against a drug should not be more damaging to an individual than the use of the drug itself. Nowhere is this more clear than in the laws against possession of marijuana in private for personal use. The National Commission on Marijuana and Abuse concluded years ago that marijuana use should be decriminalized, and I believe it is time to implement those basic recommendations.

Therefore, I support legislation amending federal law to eliminate all Federal criminal penalties for the possession of up to one ounce of marijuana."

and take it at face value? i thought we were after the truth.

sometimes people need an information stream other then the main stream media.

i am still wondering what is so harsh to you in the post?

not bashing just wondering, and i like a real dialogue on a subject that matters to me.

and as for the more impressionable members of the board. i think they get facts about alcohol every day why should this be any diffrent. even if it was leagle people under 21 still wouldnt be able to use it.

Datapimp ... first let me say that I am glad to see that someone else agrees with my "everything in moderation" view from above.

Seems you and I are on pretty much the same wavelength.

It always amazes to me to see all these ads that try to make pot users out to be something they are not. My wife is a tried and true dead head and everytime I goto to a camp out I see tons of people smoking and having a good time. They (dead heads/hippies lol) are easily one of the biggest smoking communities around and also one of the most calm, organized communities I have seen. Of the four campouts I have been to I have not once seen or heard of a pot related problem, or any problem for that matter. No one is running around causing troubles, no one is trying to "date rape" another camper, in fact they seem to be one of the bigger practicers of safe-sex that I have seen.

Given the way the mass-media would have see us "pot heads" you would think that we are degenerate scum, who cannot hold jobs, and abuse the ones around us. Instead I am a former enlisted Marine who works for one a company that writes software for all of the biggest wireless companies in the world. I make a salary that keeps a wife and two kids comfortable in a 2000 sgft townhouse, food on the table, cars in the driveway, and makes sure that my kids are happy in whatever they choose to do. Not bad for a pot smoking former grunt, with no college education, and an abnormal insight into how Unix ticks ....

Yet amazingly I dont see myself in these commercials any where ....

Unfortunately I am not the ideal of the mass-media.

to whoever was saying marijuana was a gateway drug, its not, studies done on this are misleading, theyre never accurate. if anyone wants to get a large amount of the facts about marijuana go here:

read all the articles on the left and the right, of course, like anything you find, im sure some of it isnt actually true, but for anyone that doesnt read www.newscientist.com they are an excellent source of scientific information, theyre very impartial, and are not usually wrong. i highly suggest reading the stuff on the studies that have come out of amsterdam and the extremly contrasting reports that come out of the US. Amsterdam has a unique situation in that they can actually prove or disprove a lot of the myths related to marijuana; the US is not in this situation. i would recommend that everyone take any studies comming out of the US about marijuana with a large grain of salt.

Here is the reason marijuana is illegal, drug companies and beer have MAJOR PAC, almost as big as trial lawyers. :)

They put ALOT of money into keeping marijuana illegal. Why? It has great medicinal purposes, it would hurt the pharma's bussiness. Who'd want to get wasted when they could smoke some pot?

Now Shartley, we all know it 'impairs' you, but which 'impairs' you more? I don't remember the last time someone had a blackout, couldn't walk or died from pot.

In moderation and at home, it's plenty safe.

i think we both are closer on this then you think..

you are right it shouldnt be taken at face value (now that i know what you mean).

i hope people READ what info there is out there. i dont want anyone to just look at the head lines and make a conclusion from them, thats why i included the links.

i can aggree that most people dont read all the info, just the sound bites.

there is a reason my nick is "Datapimp" i strive for as much knowledge as posible, and to gather all that is out there. i dont take anything at face value, this may be my downfall. i tend to think that others do the same when they dont.

as for Pissing and moaning i do agree.. if you want it changed then do something about it.

and i am!!

it is call a discussion on the topic amongst other things, like supporting lobby groups like normal. and Choosing to live in a town that has the same views as i do. if there was a town or state that made it fully leagle then i would move there. me and my wife had allready talked about moving to nevada if the bill had passed this last nov.

p.s. the only reason my town didnt make it fully leagel is that the state law supersedes it so they couldnt, they could just lower it as far as the law allowed.

Public discussion such as this one, is where changes are
made. If not, were? And why not here it's as good a place
as any.

PS I believe it's not. anyone self-destructive or stupid
enough to use the hard stuff would get there anyhow.

lopxtc, I like your example. I think it's great that you can enjoy smoking by yourself, and in moderation. But as said previously, most people who smoke do not. Your understanding of the consequences are great, and for once, I can *remotely* respect a marijuana user.

I, however, 'still believe that if you need a chemical to help you get through a day, you've got some issues. Need to relax? Spend time with your wife and kids. I think that's a bit more productive than smoking.

I don't like the idea of not being 100% in control of my actions, and 100% aware of what's going on. I once talked to a friend who was high, and started blabbling jibberish like "magh lug fuo whoa" and he sat there dumbfounded, wondering what I was saying. He probaby thought he was REALLY wasted, and I'm laughing at him.

Do I mind that it's illegal? No. Do I care if it's legalized? Not really, but I don't like the idea that someone can walk down the street smoking a joint. I don't like the fact that people can walk down the street and smoke a cigarrette. It produces TONS of litter, and it irritates my nose and lungs when a smoker walks by and exhales a drag of smoke.

...Now am I going to go and protest and TRY to make marijuanna legal? Heck no.
