you guys just need to face it, it will never be legal, i smoke everyday. i live in the heart of the emerald triangle (for all of you that dont know thats Humbold, trinity, and mediceno counties) and theres just massive amounts of pot constantly just all over our towns and the police only bust growers every 4 years. it will never be legal but the consiquesnes will become less and less. personally i think that if someone wants to do something to their body, let them, its like getting a piercing or a tatoo its their body let them do what they want to it. and another thing that pot makes you smarter.. thats a bunch of bull. in no way it makes you smarter in any way, it can give you a new way of thinking but you wont be smarter. i started out in high school getting 2.7 gpa's now im getting 1.3's im not blaming it on pot but if you think pot makes you smarter your in denial.

since im a history buff, im going to compare weed with booze and the 1920s
The 12 years the 18th Amendment was in effect, organized crime was up well over 200%. Bootleggers killed again and again for booze, and did anything for it. Look at it today, but replace booze with marijuana. A lot of inner-city and suburubian crime is from marijuana. People die every day beacuse of gang wars over it, just like 1920's with booze. People drank so much booze in the 20's because they felt the need to be rebelious, do something bad. Just like today with smoking pot. If pot was legal, i guarentee there will be a decline in crime and it will give the economy a tiny little boost because it would be a multi-billion doller a year industry.Dub V

I'd like to join this argument (hey, what can I say, I like to argue!
) but I am not very well versed on the subject. That and I don't want to read through the 4 pages to find out what points have been made and what hasn't...

Why don't I smoke? I really don't have a reason to. I know... "after you do it, you find out why" but, hey, I want to "mess" myself up, there is more then likely a bottle of booze sitting next to the weed. If I am going to break a law, I might as well use a substance that isn't completely illegal...
Oh, and from a page or two ago...

That should be a true statement, however I don't like the all encompassing "no one." I'm sure someone, somewhere, sometime, forgot to exhale and choked to deah. But if you are killed on weed, it isn't the weed that kills you. Its the car accident, or things like that. It leads to your death, but you can't get THC poisoning like you can with alcohol. A person sitting in a padded room with nothing but a lighter and marijuana to smoke should not die... unless he lights himself on fire... Same can't be said about someone in a room with nothing but bottles of Everclear...

A joint contains the same amount of tar as 4 cigarrettes! They will cause cancer. Cancer Kills! You potheads will be sueing someone down the road for your cancer and my taxes (35% bracket) will have to pay for indeginet care for all of the poor cancer stricken potheads. Why start with pot when cigarrete smoking is declining!!!
Pot can kill you!! Cancer isn't pretty. Yes it may take a long time, but it will be a horrid death!Comment

First let me start with a couple facts ...
1 -- Most marijuana smokers smoke the bud, not the leaf, of the plant. The bud contains only 33% as much tar as tobacco.
2 -- Marijuana smokers do not smoke anywhere near as much as tobacco smokers, due to the psychoactive effects of cannabis.
3 -- Not one case of lung cancer has ever been successfully linked to marijuana use.
4 -- Cannabis, unlike tobacco, does not cause any narrowing of the small air passageways in the lungs.
In fact, marijuana has been shown to be an expectorant and actually dilates the air channels it comes in contact with. This is why many asthma sufferers look to marijuana to provide relief. Doctors have postulated that marijuana may, in this respect, be more effective than all of the prescription drugs on the market.

One thing about pot being 4 times as much tar as Tobacco do you know anyone that smokes cigerettes that only smokes 4 a day or even 8 for that matter. Most peoepl that smoke pot dont even smoke a joint a day they might smoke one or two on the weekends but that about it. And there are other ways to use pot you can vaporize it which alows no or a very small % of the tar into you. Or they way that im going to try tonight by putting it in capsules and swollowing them. Many peopel also put it in food and i might add that it is very good in cheese and bean burritos.Comment

BTW saw the commercial that your quoting statistics from ... and of course we all know that if its on TV that it must be true.
But again ... anything can be proved with studies. Ill tend to believe studies that come from and back by the medical community as opposed to those from the same medium that will have you believe that Susan Summers was able to get a great body with only a giant rubber band.
partnership for a drug free America is your typical government run program that will show you exactly what they want to show you. Mean while what does a doctor have to gain from saying that marijuana will help reduce pain and symptoms of some medical problems better then their more expensive and harder to come by medicine. Remember allot of doctors get kick-backs from these medical companies so they have more to lose as a community by releasing these studies.
