that is actually a loop of it I got from another forum. I think if you check the live feed now there's no more debris.

An expert speculated that the insulation may have damaged some of the heat shielding when it bounced off the wing. Under the heat and stress of re-entry that may have caused the problem. Again, that was just speculation.

Yea I think the its gonna be another stupied mistake by NASA. Challenger (sp) Blew because of falty o-ring 3 bucks!!! The last shuttle NASA lost was over a 3 dollar o-ring, thats unexceptable

2.5 Million dollar rover, lost because Standard not converted to meteric. Another Stupied mistake

Cloumbia-From what I'm hearing it sounds like some of the tiles, 7 people die because of tiles. That is terrible.

yeah, let's point fingers. I am sure you could do better

The trick is finding the 3 broken orings on a giant shuttle, not easy...

Well what do you want me to do? These things just don't blow up and kill people on there own. It is someones fault. You can't just say it blew up for the fun of it.

I DO NOT know if this is true, I heard it on the radio. DO NOT QUOTE ME ON THIS. I heard someone made a 911 call and said they found an arm and a hand near the Texas/ Louisiana (sp?) border. I don't know if it's true, personally I think that it is a lie. I dunno. Also, I just saw new video of the explosion. My God...

There are pieces of the vehicle landing all around my area of town (DF/W).

My wife and I heard the sonic boom this morning about 5 minutes before the news came on about the "loss of contact".

Brings back a lot of memories of 1986 for me.

Oh my... I grew up admiring the space program, especially the shuttle program. I still have a poster of Columbias 10th Aniversary.

What a tragedy... I hope this dosent set the program back again...

Lets not politicize this nor resort to cursing and finger pointing.

According to reports Spy satelites picked up a heat flash at on the path and in the location of the shuttle at the same time NASA lost contact. Looks like an explosion occured at a critical time that being about the time it was hitting the hard atmosphere at 40 miles up. This would indicate something very volitile let lose. This also would have been at the time that the automatic controls took over to bring it through the main atmosphere.

Most people dont realize that the dynamics involved in the Shuttle leave a 1 in 100 chance that a shuttle wont come back due to a system failure. This was the 88th flight since Challenger. I do believe that number was around 1 in 64 at one time, but due to the addition of more redundant measures for systems it increased to 100.

We've become rather complacent in our views of what can happen...........the same could be said before Apollo 1, Apollo 13, Challenger, and now this flight.

Our prayers should be for the families.........an our thoughts should rest on the 3 men now aboard the Space Station.

It's been confirmed. I'm pretty sure now it's true.
