AO: We are back from the dead... again! After an 18 day outage, we are finally alive and well. Who knew how complicated updating software/databases from 2008 would be. I still have alot of tweaks to make, but my main goal was getting everything patched and updated to 2026.
Vbulletin 6 has changed alot since 2008 so we will have a ton of new features to dig into.
Ok ummm im probably wrong but... doesnt the space shuttle drop almost all of the fuel/tanks before exiting the atmosphere? And almost none is left when it re-enters the atmosphere? Sorry just people keep saying exploding and i was just wondering
You don't really think about people parts comeing down with the debri. That is terrible.
I know. I didn't think it was possible. I thought any parts would have been scorched and destroyed beyond recognition. It's almost too hard to even talk about it...

I may be wrong but I believe they don't because of the volitile nature of the fuel. It consists of a chemical that is an oxidizer which allows the fuel to burn in space. If they dump all fuel before re-entry, they run the risk of an explosion.
Who ever made this a classic scared me i thought it go deleted, this is a very good thing to classic......hold on breaking news............never mind i have already heard this.

You are correct. If it occured the way that it seems to, it was not an explosion, so much as a major invasion of air traveling at super-high velocity. At that velocity, the forces acting on the shuttle are akin to an explosion and any variation of the angle of attack from the design envlope has always been known to be catastrophic.
Explosion is not a good word. Like a meteorite, it most likely just disintegrated.
Well what do you want me to do? These things just don't blow up and kill people on there own. It is someones fault. You can't just say it blew up for the fun of it.
I want you to stop pointing fingers.
If you knew what you were talking about, you would have known about the budget crisis NASA was going thru at the time. They were also have massive problems with their mechanics. Now you are going to tell me it's 'easy' to go thru EVERY single part of an entire shuttle?
Possibly it's GOD's 'fault'? I am not going to hold anyone accountable for 3 broken o-rings. Perhaps if the entire Shuttle just fell apart on take off, then I'd consider pointing the finger, but that has NEVER been the case.

Give me a break.
You violate CPhillip's post about not pointing fingers, get corrected and then worry about breaking rules for 'arguing'...
Explosion over texas, pieces covering "thousands of miles" means a high altitude breakup. Could be ceramic tiles failure.
in honor of those who perished
Eternal Father, King of birth,
Who didst create the heaven and earth,
And bid the planets and the sun
Their own appointed orbits run;
O hear us when we seek thy grace
From those who soar through outer space.
