Dude, I just got home and heard about thisa few minutes ago.

So let me get this straight, Col. is re-entering and NASA looses contact with the shuttle. Tracking info then shows 5 distinct trails. It is confirm that the shuttle was obliterated over texas. Debris spreads over three states. Some sickos try and make a few bucks off this. Release is made.

Did I cover everything? I haven't even seen the video(s) yet btw.

Gosh, this is one of the saddest things. 7 people die while everyone is watching. My prayers go out to the families of the Astronaughts and I wish the fallen my best wishes in their trip to our father in heaven. Dude, this is terrible.

You know, I turned on the TV when they first started showing coverage of what happened and it felt kinda like deja vu for me. I lived in Melbourne, FL (short distance from Kennedy Space Center) in 1986 and I watched the Challenger blow up above me in person. That was a strange, horrible thing. I was in the 4th grade at the time, and watching from my English class windows. My Dad watched it from our driveway. This is certainly a great tragedy, and my heart goes out to the families of the brave crew members. May God bless the souls of the crew members that perished.

What a horrible day. I didn't even see anything on it until I was on AO this morning. My heart just dropped like an anvil when I read this thread originally. Laurel Clark is from my town, talk about it hitting close to home. Words can't express how I feel right now. My thoughts and Prayers go out to all the family and friends of those lost in the Columbia disaster.

For show of respect for those lost today, I will not post my sig.

I know how you feel, Geoff. I went over to Horlick High (where Laurel Clark attended) and paid my respects at the vigils going on. Still so hard to believe. I haven't felt this bad since 9/11. Like you said, it hits so close to home...

Dre - I was in 5th grade during the Challenger disaster. My class was the only one who watched it live. I still remember hearing Houston giving the ok for throttle up and a few seconds later, watch the shuttle blow up. My whole class was silent. We even watched the burial ceremony by Reagan. I've been watching shuttle launches since the first grade and I still remember hearing the sonic booms, there's two when it re-enters the atmosphere, when it lands here in California.

Actually, it started out as just watching the landing on Fox & Friends. After a few minutes they announced they lost contact, no worries right? Well 15 or 20 minutes after they were supposed to land, they went into their contingency plan. Then videos of the shuttle breaking surfaced.

Keep in mind, they didn't offically announce it for a VERY long time. I believe it was around noon they finally lowered flags at mission control, and around the same time a senior cabinet member announced, "It's gone"..

                Just to touch on something...

I think it's funny that we try to blame things on God. God isn't aloud in schools, we have school shootings, and people say "You God doesn't protect you." God isn't aloud at the work place, than 9/11 happens, and people say "Why did God let so many people die." I just find it funny that we don't alow God anywhere, yet when something bad happens, it's his fault for not saving us...

                RIP to those who died.

Two wrongs don't make a right, but three lefts do.

Thats because we were all brought up beliving that "God" loves us, and died for us. That brings up the argument that if he loved us, why would he let us die?

"God" is not allowed in our schools, workplace or anywhere gov't related because if we allowed the Christian God, then we have to allow all types of religion and other whacko things in there as well. Plus it tries to keep us from saying "God wants our company to take over the other businesses, God wants our gov't to take over the world, God wants you to convert your friends!" and stuff like that

Personally I don't believe, but have no right to try to tell you what to do or who to pray to... Plus this shouldn't turn into a religous debate either...
Hey Zero, how much did that Chipley cost ya?

It is a true tragedy when we lose seven individuals that so boldly risked their lives in the name of science. My thoughts go out to their families for their loss. I also give thanks to the seven we lost, the others we have lost and the many who have and will continue to risk their lives in the name of Space exploration. I think there is no greater endeavor that we can take part in as a Planet.

Wow, I heard some wierd **** in the news. Apparently, a skull landed in someone's backyard, but they don't know if it was from the shuttle or not.

For any and everyone who says it is Gods fault and that he lets bad things happen, read the book of Job.

So what time did it happen? I am still a little behind everything.

Coming home from Church yesterday and going to work this morning, the most erie feeling came over me as I saw the highway signs which usually warn about traffic jams, urge you to carpool or have some other equally mundane message displayed for drivers and passers-by display this message:

"Call Police with information about Space Shuttle Debris."
