I never disputed that. This is a different type of military action that is all. The first was reactive to Saddam's agression. This would be proactive to stop any future problems Saddam may bring. I agree with both. Just to be blunt, I am not a warmonger. I am not clammering for blood. I don't think anyone on this board WANTS A WAR. A lot of us realize that it may be necessary. Hiding your head in the sand and wishing a problem away doesn't work unless you are named Dorothy and wearing ruby slippers!

Alot of US military dependents was born overseas, and all of them have American citizenships. My mom isn't called a German and my father isn't called French. But it would be kind of funny for someone with my last name and the family members I have to somehow be considered French (just think PM of England).

So what your saying is that you're French! Do you wish to surrender now or later!

Do you know the French Defenense of France. Read up on it, FOL is not correct.

You need to realize that we pay almost half the bills for the UN and in fact paid many more percent of that until recently. And that goes to the aid that the UN provides too. What do you think its costing us to guard that No Fly Zone for 12 years? And you have people there too. NO one is paying us to do that. Wish they were. Maybe if they were picking up that tab they would not feel so free to let it drag on forever? WAKE UP!!!!
Cphillip and I agree on this one. American people dislike war and armed conflict in general. Actually most democracies dislike war and it is hard to drag them into war. If you read about early Roman history they did not like to get involved in foreign wars. They ended up taking over islands like Sicily (I believe it was Sicily...it has been so long) because it had been used as a base for foriegn invaders. If you look at our previous wars (WWI and WWII) it took alot for us to finally get involved.

Also if you look at Bush Sr.'s statement there is alot of what makes the US a great country. The desire not to exceed the UN mandate. The desire not to offend our Arab allies. The desire to set a precedence of limiting outright aggression after the cold war. Just after the Gulf War Bush was extremely popular and I believe alot of people were pleased that he had done what he set out to do. Liberate Kuwait, show Iraq that we would not let them invade their neighbor, and not get us involved in a long foriegn occupation. He only lost the following election due to his no new taxes statement (people felt betrayed), a lagging economy, and Ross Perot. Oh well a third party candidate (Nader) eventually evened the odds of Karma. I remember thinking about Bush Sr. that he was a republican I could live with (much like McCain). I did not have an extreme dislike for him like what I have developed for his son. At the time (I was in college) Clinton struck as someone very concerned with being politically correct and you could tell that his caring and concerned demeanor was fake. People said he was a good speaker but I thought Reagan was much better (and I'm a democrat). Yes I voted for him anyway.

                  EDIT:
Some of you will get a kick out of this:
Take action star Jean-Claude Van Damme for example. On the topic of celebrities speaking out against an all-out assault on Iraq, he told Globe magazine, "Some of those in Hollywood are part of the axis of ignorance!"
See I have a sense of humor...

Screw SaddaM, Bin Laden, and all other people who do not support the US...We do not need anyone they need us...just think about this all you people with different opinions...some countries can not even have a discussion like this...America is a free country and we should be very thankful, but you forget people have to stand up and fight for this $hit.....America is a Super Power and with that comes responsibility...yeah i dont like some of it but it comes with the territory. It makes me SICK when i am at school and i see people with booths handing out flyers that say, "WHO IS THE REAL TERRORIST", if you do not like it get the F out...go live in Iraq or wherever you choose...TOO many people take advantge of our freedoms and forget what it would be like it we could not have conversations like this....All i am saying is this do not be scared of a war in Iraq...be scared if the United States would not invade...Also i say fight fire with fire...you bomb our country then we will bomb yours...you kill our families then we will kill yours...Already iam going to get some grief for saying this, but this is the only way to fight terrorism...when people are brought up to hate Americans then there is nothing we can do about it...i say take there oil and whatever else we want...maybe a taste of there own medicine will sober them up!!

And you have a bad habit of shifting blame. If I drop a bomb that kills 50 soldiers and say 20 civilians (Just numbers of the top of my head). Any hatred directed towards that attack is caused by the bomb.

It is so easy to shift the blame from us; it is so easy to say that we can do just about what ever we want because we were attacked first. There comes a time when you have to realize that your actions speak highly. Who do you think they will blame for the above attack. That is right, on the country that dropped the bomb. And that is all that matters. Again look into Bosnia and see the hatred the US got after the bombing campaign even though we were helping them.

I agreed with you up to the bombing part.

Well, first off, I would like to say that I liked the article. The thread has slightly moved away from that topic, but I guess that was inevitable.

I find it interesting that ppl can have a controversial view, yet hide behind the screen of a computer. It is easy to speak off your opinions about people and subjects, but unless you have thought of the many details and workings of life, I feel that you cannot comprehend such thoughts.

Collegeboy, I am sorry, but in almost all the posts that I have tried to read of yours, you make little to no sense. I also find it annoying that people like you give people in college a bad name. Now, I am sure that this will bring a response, but don't worry, you will eventually get a response back from me. I do not live on these forums, so be patient. I am in college, finishing up actually, venturing off and continuing in the real world. It is completely different reading and listening about life, and experiencing it. Now, if you want your college experience to be one of doubt, than have fun. If you are always second guessing thoughts, ideas, and facts, you will never have time to sleep.

As a teacher, what I have learned is take what is being taught, and use it. If it works for you then great. If not, then don't use it. But I don't second guess every single piece of information that I come across. Just the ones that seem wrong to me, AND that I feel very strongly about. Ideas are funny little things, but don't confuse them with facts. You don't see air, but you can still breath right?

I do not agree with your views, mainly for the fact that I am thinking about the people that have lost lives or close loved ones lives. My pops served in Vietnam, and I cannot imagine him not being here. My uncle also served in the Gulf War and again, I cannot imagine how it would feel to not have him around. I do not like war for the very reason that loved ones die. But, unfortunately life is not kittens and poodles and sunshine. Bad people want to do bad things to the US, and we as a nation cannot leave this alone. You stand behind your views and taste the freedom speech, yet you seem to not want to support our leader. You may call yourself whatever you want, but the bottom line is that you have not proven to me, and probably others on your views. You can continue attacking members of this thread that do not share your thoughts, but it is worthless. Show a compelling argument, rather than insult people. I don't think this has anything to do with you being a college student, or "Johnny Blah Blah Blah." I think it has to do with the fact that your posts have been proven unsupportive with factual information and yet you still continue to fight.

Shartley, I have 2 comments. 1) What havent you done in your life? Jesus Christ, I mean, served in the Armed Forces, lived and traveled across the world, was a cop, played Principal Violinist for the London Symphony Orchestra, was the first man to reach the North Pole, discovered a new species of shark, and can make Quiche. All this and still post the hell out of this board. Oh, yea, and 2) how the hell have you been able to put up wtih this guy's crap for the past, what, 4 days?
