We don't have to love their moxy. The marines were sending a message to the Iraqi people (that the war is over and their army has basically folded). Those marines were doing their job and I heard some interviews where they were explaining that it is not some enjoyable joy ride but a mission where people died (the enemy thankfully). As one of them explained on the radio people talk about softening up the enemy but the reality is they are killing them.

The duty of our soldiers is that they have to kill the enemy for the rest of us and it is the burden they must bear for the rest of us as well. Listening to the interviews today reminded me that they not only risk their lives in place of the rest of us but also are forced to witness the horrors of war (even if we win with ease) for the rest of us as well. Hopefully this insanity will be over soon and I think it will.

      Light-Hearted

I know the were sending a message. I was trying to be light-hearted.

CNN reports that Iraq is now admitting that the US forces are "On Baghdad", but their advance is leaving them weakened in the rest of Iraq! Got to love the Iraqi spin machine! *Just being funny*

I guess it doesn't seem to be a light hearted subject matter for me. The Iraqi spin machine is ridiculous, however. They were going to retake the airport within the hour...then they started trying to say that US forces were repulsed from the city. They would be smarter just to say NOTHING rather than spew such ridiculous stuff.

I can't stand Rumsfeldt but as of this moment it appears that "his" battle plan was sound despite criticism from others in the military. That does not mean, however, that I agree with his rationale and diplomacy. Getting into politics again.......can't help myself Cphillip....I'll stop now.

Chemical Ali has been found dead in Basra. The head of intelligence service was also found with him. More here.

We actually have 3 branches according to the US Constitution. The Executive, Legislative (House and Senate) and Judicial! The House and Senate are part of the same arm of the government.

Pick up a basic Political Science text book and learn a little...

                      Why yes, yes you should!
Geez. I get a small detail wrong. Didn't realise senate and house were considered the same "branch". At least I know more about world politics than many others.

For those that didn't get it, a republican system is a system with an elected or appointed head of state. A paliamentary system is historically based on hereditary head of state, although not necessarily any more.

Actually a parlimentary system is one in which most power resides in the legislative brach of the government. The head of state is an elected member of said parliment, usually a Prime Minister. This system some times has an executive branch, but it has little to no power, i.e. in Israel, the President is a symbolic post.

You are getting better SBF and yes you do know more then a few people here. Just never stop learning!

Getting a little preachy for my tastes 1stdeadeye. I hope that you are trying to be funny (acting like a know it all American that wants to "teach" the world everything they should know but doesn't think that we have anything to learn as well).

Anyway we are getting way off topic here. Everyone read about Chemical Ali? He looks a lot like Saddam. More Iraqi leadership gone is good. Hopefully this will be over soon!

Yep. I heard it late last night. Posted it a few post back when the news just came out. Iraqi officials are still denying that coalition forces are in Iraq.

I'll stick to the Queen's English thanks.

                                Actually.....

You're absolutely wrong when it comes to the UK, Canada, and Australia. In Canada the day-to-day head of state is the Governor General (appointed by the Prime-Minister) but officially it's the Queen.

Israel has the Kennessit (sp?) not a parliament, and by virtue of having a President is a Republic.

I'd dig out my pol-sci books from College, but that's going back a bit too far...
