Reports are that a Special Operations helicopter carrying an unknown number of troops have crash landed in southern Iraq but were rescued. Here's a link about it: http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmp...elicopter_dc_3 .Comment

Being in PHX im sorta close as well... but I would rest assured that all is going to be handled.Originally posted by breg
I saw that, kinda near me, kinda scary. edwierd, what do you think? since you are so close.
this comes from years of living near Nuclear reactors, with inept ppl working there.
For a nuclear reactor to go up it would also take a significant strike as they have all been recently fortified as per orders of the Homeland Security Act and actions of the NRC. Let ya local authorities take care of it and keep ya eyes peeled for weirdness.
also: "Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano said she dispatched National Guard troops to the Palo Verde plant on Tuesday."

There is an acception to this rule ... and that would be if he were to move in a military unit, secure the bulding, and position his troops in a way to use the building as a secured "bunker" so to speak. Any building that is used in this method then becomes a valid military target despite what it may at one time have been.
Now if he was just in a hospital say like you or I would be if injured, then you are correct in that we cannot attach the building. However it can still be raided and he can be taken by force, unlike a church or major religious building which could afford him sanctuary. This was what Noriega (sp?) did before PsyOps got him out with 24/7 loud annouying music ...

I was thinking about the possibility that Saddam was wounded. That may be bad. If he is wounded, and in a hospital, he is no longer a lawful target, as hospitals are not allowed to be targeted by internationl conventions.

The sad thing is we cannot discuss this all with the common Iraqis and reasure them our intentions. They are not allowed internet connections, nor Cel Phones nor satelite TV for that matter. The only way to relate it is to hit only Military Targets and in Bagdad the crazy thing is he has concentrated most of them in thier own elite section of town where no one else goes!
Not to say that we do know he has indeed hidden things inside Schools and Hospitals too. And will indeed try to extract as many human casualties of his own people to try and gain world sympathy. Look for him to do that in a few days when he gets desperate. He will use his own people as shields and even kill them himself if need be and blame it on us. We know that and expect it. Hopefully his people will not go along with it.Comment

Into the Fray!!
Iraq has launched a total of 8 missles now. At least 2 of them were SCUDs. SCUDs were banned weapons under the terms of Saddam's surrender in GWI. I guess for all of those people who were questioning Bush, there is your proof. SCUDs were banned because they have a range of up to 400 miles. The other missles have not been reviewed yet as some fell into the sea and some hit the middle of nowhere.
The argument as to whether Saddam was complying is over. SCUDs were banned, not only did he have them, he has used it. Good thing the UN was making sure he disarmed.
The Marines have been shelling Iraqi positions pretty hard. Although this is not the "Shock and Awe" part of the campaign, the journalist with CBS with them reported that Heavy Artillery was dropping 1 shell per second for 1/2 hour straight. A 1/2 hour off then another 1/2 hour on. 96 lb High Explosive shells. That is alot of Shock and Awe.
As for Saddam, the US is hinting that we might have gotten a good bit of Iraqs senior command. They will not comment except to note the appearance of a leadership vacuum in Iraqs military! I hope he is dead and buried. This will definitely cut the wars length!Comment

Collegeboy
Trying to hold back pointing out the obvious to 1de, need to stay in the rules so I won't. I might send a PM.
It seems now they are saying the guy on TV last night was Saddam, but I don't think they will ever Know. I would hate to be in Kuwait right now. Gas attack alerts almost every two hours.Comment

SCUDs are banned in Iraq because of their range. Iraq admitted to the Al Sayood (sp) missles which have a much shorter range, but SCUDs were expressly forbidden. Iraq fired Scuds! End of story!
They are still not sure about the guy last night. They are also still not sure if it was Saddam, but taped in advance for just such an occasion.
We will have to wait until the 101st rolls into Bagdad!Comment

They seem to think it is Saddam now. Just do not know when it was taped. Most feel it was after the deadline but before the bombing. Thats a two day and a few hours addtional time frame. One thing for certain he did not look Presidential nor confident and most likely did not instill confidence in his people.Comment
