Actually, A-1 makes a somewhat decent marinade (can't remember the name other than it's from the company that makes A-1). Just don't let it sit too long in the marinade, or you'll taste that more than the steak.

I've also been told about dry rubs for meat, instead of marinade. Haven't tried them yet, but I'll give it a shot one of these days.

Oh, and nothing beats cooking a nice juicy steak on an indoor grill. Gets rid of excess fat, and it's done a lot quicker. :)

if anything other than Sea Salt and fresh cracked Pepper and done medium Rare to Rare...

...Either one called "Heat" a 16 pepper blended red slightly vinegar based sauce made in Cashiers North Carolina. Excellent in a very small quantity on a rare Filet.

or one called "Samson's Sauce". Its also a local sauce made in Greensboro North Carolina. Not only Steaks but Grilled Fish or Smoked Pork with this one. Slightly thicker than Heat but tangy and spicey. And its available on the Net for order. www.samsonsauce.com

I marinate my steak in Dales with a nice rub of garlic salt, pepper, and garlic

If I cook the steak I don't add anything to it when I eat it. But if I eat someone else's I normally eat it with a little bit of ranch dressing. But I don't often eat meat so, steaks are far and few between.

Italian Dressing actually makes a nice marinade.

Normally, I'll just grill one up with "Montreal Steak Seasoning" or Rosemary + Thyme. Then salt to taste. Black Pepper is always good.

Medium-Rare is the only way to prepare a steak and A-1 is trash.

The garlic or lawrys salt sounds like a good idea.

Either italian dressing or lee and parrins worsashire (sp) sauce for the marinade.

                          cooked nice and medium rare.

topped with either more lee and parrins or sour cream
and there better be some peas and carrots on the side

                          YUM YUM

                                1) good quality extra virgin olive oil
                                2) fresh cracked peper
                                3) fresh ground sea salt
                                4) there is no forth thing!

3-4 minutes per side over a very hot grill and you're good to go!
