I have been reading alot on different aspects of marijuana and it's subculture and history. I have come to relize that it being illegal is not at all for the saftey and health of the american people. Even if it was, shouldn't it be the responsability of the American people to decide what they want in their body? Well I know alot of people are going to say, "But it will be destructive toward society!" and I want to know, why is alcohol not illegal then? It causes many problems in society, more than if marijuana was legalized. Did you know that you would have to consume 1,500 pounds of Marijuana in under 30 minutes to overdose, Hmmm... how much alcohol do you need?
On September 6, 1988, the Drug Enforcement Administration's Chief Administrative Law Judge, Francis L. Young, ruled: "Marijuana, in its natural form, is one of the safest therapeutically active substances known to man," and asked the Drug Enforcement
Administration to reschedule it.
Interesting isn't it. Why is it that people get outraged at the mention of alcohol prohibition, but marijuana is evil and should never be used? Have any of you ever seen what the government said ABOUT MARIJUANA about 70 years ago? Hmmm... lets see...
"Reefer makes darkies think they're as good as white men."
- Federal Bureau of Narcotics Chief Harry J. Anslinger, 1929
"There are 100,000 total marijuana smokers in the US,
and most are Negroes, Hispanics, Filipinos and entertainers.
Their Satanic music, jazz and swing, result from marijuana usage.
This marijuana causes white women to seek sexual relations
with Negroes, entertainers and any others."
Harry J. Anslinger, testimony to Congress, 1937, on why marijuana should be illegal.
Also, back then the government said that it causes "MURDER! INSANITY! DEATH!"
Some of you may think, that was a long time ago and has nothing to do with today, well, if the government could be that ignorant and come out and lie like that back then, what makes you think they aren't doing that now? Just take a look at all those anti-Marijuana commercials, most of them are lies. There are so many things wrong with those commercials I am not even going to go into them.
Now, lets look at all the good things that happen because of marijuana being illegal. Hmmm lets see, first off how about 19 billion dollars of your tax money being used toward the drug war. Do you feel its being well used? I don't. Scince 1993 drug use in teens has doubled. And there are still over 71 million users in the US. What about the 13 million people arrested in the last 30 years for marijuana charges? Does that seem right that that many people are beind harrased and possibly having to do time for having or smoking a plant? Dosen't sound right to me.
Also, if I haven't put up a good enough argument check out this. http://www.jackherer.com/
