CNN, MSNBC, and Foxnews all report that, according to their exit polls, Arnold is the new governor of California. If anyone has suggested this a year ago, I would have said they were crazy...

Sad day for democracy? Man, this is democracy in action. At least give the man a chance.
Just think, Arnold has the greatest potential Ive seen in a candidate for a while. Most candidates are career politicians, and are concerned with their political future. Thats why Davis pandered to everyone. Arnold had a successful career already. He just thinks he can help California.Comment

not that im saying that it is the best thing for the country/state right now (because i dont think it is--i thinkt hey should have stuck with davis despite what the conservative end wanted), BUT it is hardly a sad day for democracy...if anything its a bright day as it is democracy showing its truest...the people of california wanted him gone and the election went directly according to state constitution...i dont see anything undemocratic about thatOriginally posted by Collegeboy

This guy is a smart man here. I totally agree. If I lived in california, I would have voted for Arnold.Comment

i don't see how citizens of that state saying they don't like someone they just elected and throwing him out is democracy. you can't just go around throwing anything out of the government you don't like...

But that's partially the point of democracy, if the people don't like what the government, or at least one person in the government, they have the power to remove that person from power.
Yes this is democracy in action, but its analagous to someone using a pb marker for vandalism instead of its intended use.
As for people from out of Cali, I wouldn't be so quick to say that you would vote for Arnold. I'm sure there's a lot of things you don't really hear about in the other states, and, well, let me just say that I think we would have been a lot better off just keeping Davis in.
Anyway, just the thoughts of a Cali native too young to vote. (if only the election had been delayed for another 6 months!!!!)

Sure you can, thats democracy. In fact, its more than we usually get, as the US is much more a constitutional republic than a democracy.
Democracy is defined as "Government by the people, exercised either directly or through elected representatives.: Explain why having the people of California choosing to remove Davis from office is undemocratic. Who cares that he was elected and hasnt served out his term? This recall reflects the will of the people. In fact, voter turnout was better than in any election in recent history.
And you most definately can toss out people you dont like. Thats the whole reason out government is set up like it is. Otherwise, we would have just stuck with the monarchy.Comment
