No, I could care less if he is republican, democrat, green, and libertarian. It is a sad day in the eyes of democracy for you would hope that the populace would be smart enough to vote a guy into office on his ideas, not his background. I listened to the debates, and all I can get from it is I am going to change, I am going to be different, I will repel the Davis car registration hick (which he can not for California HAS to have a balanced budget). It is a sad day in the eyes of democracy for it shows that the new media has a huge control on how we vote. How can they make us believe that by changing one person, the whole system will be better?

The only thing that I will see from this is a nation wide trend, do something we do not like, recall. (There is already a movement starting in Alabama to recall Riley) This is why we are not a democracy. Remember what happened in Venezuela. Think of that when you back this whole power struggle.

IN closing, who in there right mind can say they are for cleaning up the environment, if they own three hummers, and use them in every one of their speeches.

You do realized Arnolds Hummers(H1) have 6.3 litre Turbodiesels which are usually(after gov. regs) are cleaner, unless someone wants to clarify for me.

None the less, if just now you realize the media has alot to do with the election process, then you've had your head under the pillow for too long.
      BLOODY MURDER!

What are you talking about? It's a great day for democracy. The citizens of California, using their consitutional right to a recall, decided to add some accountability to the political process and remove a corrupted and disreputable governor and replace him by practicing democracy. They voted for a replacement candidate from a list of over 100 candidates. Unlike a regular election in the recall it is very easy to be a candidate. It's not just the major two parties that can put candidates forward, anyone can.

Whether or not you like the winner, the fact is that democracy was practiced.
Or better yet, why don't you kill yourself. No, really, die. Drop dead, don't leave a note, in fact burn your house while your little ego is stuck in a bench vice so that you'll also incenerate yourslef and everything you own with it. Because that's all you're worth. You're not even wirh thte time it'll take for the house to burn down, so just kill yourself. You're a waste of space. You are nothing, you always will be nothing. I'll clarify for you, they are GMC 6.2 or 6.5 Liter turbo diesels, (a great dependable engine) depending on the year, Unless he bought more recent ones which are available in Gasoline versions.

Diesels are cleaner, by mile and by gallon, and they idle much cleaner, with much less fuel than gas engines... I mention the idling, since I hear you cali folks do a lot of that during rush hour

Um, the bulk of the Media was against Arnold. All of the leftist organizations were pulling for either Davis or Bustamanta and the rightists were pulling for McClintlock. It was the people that really wanted Arnold. And yeah, by changing one person it can be better. If one person didn't make a difference then why even have a governor, or a president? I watched the debate as well and he had a perfectly reasonable grasp on the situation. Do I think he was the most qualified candidate? No. Do I think he was the best candidate that's electable? I sure do.

And what exactly is wrong with being elected do to you background? At least he has something to point to that shows people he's determined, smart, ambitious, and successful. I'd say that's a track record worth considering and worth more then any kind of "ideas" a candidate can offer. Solid factual evidence means more to me then someone simply telling me what they could do. I want to know what they have done.

The only thing that I will see from this is a nation wide trend, do something we do not like, recall. And accountability is a good thing. THat's where the real reform in politics is going to occur. If the people think you're a corrupt politician that made false promises and just sold out to special interests you'll lose your job. That's the way it should be.

And Venezuela was a MUCH different situation then we have here.

IN closing, who in there right mind can say they are for cleaning up the environment, if they own three hummers, and use them in every one of their speeches.

It has been factually proven that SUV's, like Hummers, cause almost none of the pollution associated with cars. The real problem is 15 year old verhicles on the streets. They are the cars that don't have any of the efficiency or clean air standards. Now, a Hummer is worse then a Honda Civic Hybrid, but it is leaps and bounds better then a 1975 Dodge Station Wagon on it's last leg. Until those cars are off the roads I suggest we leave the SUV owners alone and worry about the real problem.

For the record, even my 20 year old SUV runs cleaner than many modern cars. And can run on a renewable fuel to boot.

But, again, that's why we have emissions testing in this state.

That's not true at all. The Florida recount was exceptional because it was so unusual and not really anticipated. The election was very close, really too close to call definitivly and as such very unusual steps had to be taken to make sure we HAD a president. It was very different and IMO everyone muddeled through it fairly well. Maybe the outcome wasn't what some people had wanted, but it was (given the circumstances) relativly fair.

The recall on the other hand had a very specific set of rules to follow in order for it to proceed. The outcome was completely determined by the voters, as opposed to Florida where the eventual outcome had to be determined by Judges.

Now, maybe you don't like the results, and there's certainly nothing wrong with that, but that doesn't mean that any kind of wrong doing went on. Frankly, I thnk the election went off without a hitch.

Hey maybe Ill run for govenor next, oh wait I dont have money or a dirty groping history to hide.

What's great about the recall is how easy it is for everyday people to run for governor. All you needed was a handfull of signatures and $3,500. No party support is needed. No big financial backers. Nothing.

As for the groping charges. The day I care that the biggest action movie star in the world might have grabbed a woman's butt on the set of a movie in 1980 and 25 years later she has a problem with it is the day that I become a "centrist" like CB.

Well, its not really the point of this thread, but:

#1 Bush never denied doing coke. He just refused to comment on it. Its generally accepted that he did do it.

#2 A "C" average, even at Harvard, is not a good thing. Fortunately, the President is smart enough to surround himself with an exceptionally brilliant (if sometimes misguided) staff. Powell, Rice, and Rumsfeld are all sharp as tacks.
