for everyone that doesnt know, Rush Limbaugh had to take painkillers due to herniated disks, this is an extremely painful condition that requires surgery to fix, and although Rush had the surgery, it failed, and he ended up in as much pain as before, if he hadn't taken painkillers, he probably wouldn't of have been able to function due to the extreme pain, so all of you accusing him of being a hypocrite, learn about his situation before judging him
Rush Limbaugh is a drug addict!

There is not one family on the face of this earth who has not have or had a person with a alcohol problem, or might even extend into some sort of drug problem (either legal or illegal).
Well, he is a addicted to a drug. And while I don't think it's as bad as robbing to and killing to feed a crack habit, he is a self confessed drug addict.
I am not a follower of Rush enough to know if he spook out against drugs, or made fun of other people who used them.
Frankly neither am I. But it is being reported by conservatives in the media that he did not. Although we obviously can't trust them 100% (since their biased) we can't really trust the rest of the media either (since they're biased the other way, against Rush).Or better yet, why don't you kill yourself. That's all true and as such I wish him the best of luck. However, my sympathy starts to flag when people start breaking the law.Originally posted by JonDaAzn

Well, certainly not an inpartial editorial, but not too inaccurate either.
I'm not loving that he's taking the housekeeper's word as gold right now (despite it being widely reported that he had other sources). I don't honestly believe he was popping with regularity 100 pills a day (since on the second day we'd all be talking about what a shame it was that he died yesterday on an overdose).
And I'll bet you Rush stays to his word on what he thinks about drugs and drug users. However, I'm still against jail time. He's not a violent addict. He did (more or less) turn himself in. He was not caught using drugs in connection with another crime. He's a guy that was in a lot of pain that got hooked on the pain medication. I'd say that if he does kick the habit there's a lot better things we can do with him then put him in prison. Fines and community service are probably the best idea.Or better yet, why don't you kill yourself. No, really, die. As someone who had a family member addicted to OxyContin, I'll tell you right now, in the rehab community that stuff is considered worse than heroin.
I generally tend to be conservative on a lot of issues, but I tell you I can't help but smile that this pompous windbag got caught in his own hypocrisy after pointing it out in others for so many years.

I had a herniated disk and it is very painful to live with. It sucked. After the operation, however, it takes some time for it to get better. Maybe he has to give it more time.Originally posted by JonDaAzn

As for Rush and hypocrisy I feel sorry for him and you all know I don't like Rush Limbaugh. Still nothing can be gained now by wishing him ill and putting him in jail does nothing for society. It is time to see if his listeners are truly supportive or a bunch of witch hunters that abandon people at the first sign that not everything is "perfect". Hopefully we'll see a more "compassionate conservative" out of Rush after rehab.

It's too bad he got hooked, but that's the problem with being human. Does he deserve jail time? No - who'd that help besides those who disagree with his politics? He's not a violent criminal, he is so well known he'd pose no flight risk, and his extreme income means boat-loads of taxes paid each year to the government.
I heard an interesting question today on the subject: if this were Ted Turner or (fill in the blank with your favorite Liberal journalist), would this have received the same critical press? I seriously doubt it. The person in question would be seen as the 'victim' of drug-abuse. Rush made his own bed, and I'll bet he loses very little support from this issue.Comment

Yeah, you get that arguement a lot whenever a Bill Bennet or a Rush Limbaugh is caught doing something. Would the press treat it the same if it wasn't a notable conservative doing something? I honestly think the answer is no.
Take Arnold for example. The same press that demonized Kenn Starr and defended Bill Clinton was now out for blood because a movie star might have grabbed a woman's butt. I couldn't even believe what I was hearing when I turned on the TV or read reports. Serial groper? Hitler lover? It was completely insane. It's one thing to hear it out of a politician's camp. They're playing dirty politics, and while I don't approve, they're not supposed to be objective, like the press claims to be.
I don't think the media bias is all it's cracked up to be, but I do think it's out there.Or better yet, why don't you kill yourself. No, really, die. Rush is no better than any addict, whether they be on the street or are filthy rich. Both support a network of illeagal drug activity and put money in the hands of drug dealers (yes, doctors can be drug dealers). What if he admitted he was a rapist? Would it be okay because he doesn't depend on welfare?
How much money do you have to make exactly for it to be ok to be a drug addict?
I'm sure Rush will make it out of this intact. Thats more than I can say about Tommy Chong, who is going to jail for selling bongs. Maybe Rush will have a little more compassion for people who have problems that aren't so simple to solve.Comment

The tendency is to demonize sections of society until it's family, someone you love or admire.
The trick is (as always) to recognize people as people and come to your personal resolution for the issues. Then to do what you feel is appropriate.Thanotos

Well as a supporter of rush, I must say that I feel this is different than most other drug problems. He was addicted to painkillers, which are very easy to get addicted to mind you, due to "herniated disks" as posted previously. Its hardly the same as illegally buying cocaine and getting hooked.Originally posted by than205

People have all kinds of reasons/excuses or "circumstances" for being hooked on drugs, Rush is no different or better and should be treated accordingly.Originally posted by -=Squid=-

Regardless of my opinion on Rush's political views I hope he can kick his habit. I wouldn't wish addiction on anyone. And belive it, if his drug abuse was left unchecked, he would spiral out of control and eventually lose everything.
Oxycontin is no joke, and it's much worse than a simple pain killer.Comment
