Hmm...was it posted 'no skateboards, rollerskating, or bicycles'? Bet it was. Your attitude towards "Pigs" is easily seen by any Cop, and they will question your innocent-or-not intent. Besides, lately I have rarely seen skaters simply rolling sown the sidewalk. Usually you are grinding a bench or wall or railing. Private and public property is destroyed, and YOU become the culprits
Do you know why I pulled you over?

nope, i can honestly say that we were just going down a sidewalk. we werent doing anything. what gives him the right to not allow us to ride them down a public sidewal?? i think thats crappy he can do that. we were going to somewhere to skate but he didnt know that. -
also forgot to add that when we were going to wendys to eat. we had to skate across a parking lot and thecop from the other side sped up and went across the parking lot ,which he wasnt allowed to do, cuz there are the painted lines u have to follow in the parking lot. so he is telling us werent not allowed and my friend goes well what u just did was illegal also and he shuts up and we proceed to go to wendys. i dont see what the big deal is, they would rather take a chance of causing an accident in the parking lot just cuz he wants to tell us we cant ride our skateboards there?Comment

Well guys, I will be the first to agree that there are dirty cops. Some are only in uniform for the power they think they have. That is the sad thing. As for putting up with it. In the past it was tolorated because of the blue wall of silence that everyone felt that they had to keep. Now it is a different story. I will be the first officer to bring up problems with another officer to supervisors or such. It is not being a squeeler, it is doing a hard job to help out the department.
It is really sad that as you say, a fue bad apples ruin the image for the whole proffession. If I may turn your words around Shaft, as you say there are bad apples in paintball that ruin the image of the sport. Does that mean that you will never trust another paintballer. If that is so, how will you ever play the game again. Don't get me wrong. I agree with you, there are problems in the police field but there are problems in every field.
Just a note for thought, Remember guys and gals, Police Officers usually play a reactive role in enforcement. That is we have to respond to complaints brought up by other people. JAH871, you said that you wern't doing anything wrong, just skatebording. I can't pass judjment on the deal since I was not there. However I can say that even if you were abiding the law if there is a complaint about "some kids skatebording around and causeing problems", even if it is unfounded we as public servents have to act.
I am not saying that everything a police officer says or does is above the law. Some officers get carried away for some reasion or the other. I can't say that I have always done the right thing. There are many times that I think back on a stop or a confrontation and realize that what I said or did was stupid. Every officer has a different style of how to do the job. Some come off as complete hard a$$es, some come off as complete inepts.Don't try running, you will only give me a better story!

Thought I would split this up alittle so it wouldn't look like a super long post.
Steveg, I am sorry for your unfortunate bursh in's with the law because of your apperence. The thing is, the police usually have to work with profiles. In my experience and training, 7 out of every 10 drug arrests, involves a young guy with long hair and a beard. This is just a fact of life. Unfortunatlly when you choose a look for yourself and you choose to look like different then the norm sometimes you will get looked at differently. Not to say ther is anything wrong with how you look. Just rember that as long as you arn't doing anything illeagle and are respectful and polite you won't have any problems. As for the officer being tried for reckless driveing. I think that it is good that stuff like that happens sometimes. It helps keep us officers in check by reminding us that we are not above the law.
As for the bike question posted by vf-xx, I think the best way to answer you is to say that you need to check in with your local laws. The law varies from area to area. What may be leagle in one area may not be in another. I know in Missouri if you are rideing a bike in the street and not on a marked bike path you must go with the flow of traffic, stop at all stop lights and signes, and signal your turns. But it may be different in your area. The best bet is go to your local town hall or archives building. they should have a list of state, county, and city laws that you can look through. If you can't find them, aske an officer in your area.
If you ever feel that you have been unjustly accused of something. You have the right to fight it. that is why you are given a court date. If you want to contest the ticket that is your oppurtunity to do so. Just remember, as it was posted earlier, The judges know who the ticket happey cops are, they will also began to learn who the complaint happy citizens are. If you decide to contest every ticket because you think you were unfairly stopped you will only make it harder on yourself.
Guys, Feel free to ask me any Law Enforcement questions you have. I would be happy to answer you as best as I can, but I don't claim to know everything. Remember, I am working as well and may not be able to check things every night but I will try.
Well, time to get back to work. See yaDon't try running, you will only give me a better story!

Tack,
I don't trust paintball players either. That's why I am glad there are refs on the field to chrono everybody and conduct paintchecks etc.
I do not feel safe amongst cops. I do not feel protected by cops. And they are supposedly the refs of my town.
I've seen cops blatantly break laws when they are off duty because they feel they are above the law.
I hope that there will come a time when I'm proven totally wrong. A time where good cops become the vocal majority.

I've found that sometimes cops are nessisary, most of the time they are just bored. I've been pulled over at least 8 times 7 of those times have been within a block of my house.
4 times where for haveing a Black mustang that gave the cop a boner. Actually it was window tint, but cops pull drivers over as they please. Some ppl go years wihtout haveing a warning for tintm some ppl never get pulled over and then young kids in nice cars get nailed all the time. PIGS.
then 2 times I was speeding. I was going 29 in a 25. I have the ticket and have been meaning to scan it for somme time but my scanner is from the windows 3.11 era and it's not liking XP. I'll get it up one of these days. And once I was driving next to a red neon that had all it's lights flashing and I was distracted but it was still my fault. What I don;t understand is why I got pulled over and not the neon next to me with the lights flashing?
Then just this month I got pulled over for having a tail light out. When I checked it out there was a bulb out NOT the whole light. Now if that isn't the LAMEST reason to pull someone over I don't know.
I run into sherrifs from time to time and always get along great with them, usually end up joking about something. HWY patrols are kewl too, if they pull you over you did something wrong, none of this "I've got PMS so you got a ticket "deals.
I'n all honesty, I'm shure local pd's serve a purpose. I just wish they would leave me the heck alone about all this peddly stuff and at least try and pull me over before I get to my front door, yeah that's happened before.Comment

Well Shaft, I am sad that you feel that way. Yes, cops do do things that are against the law. Those officers may not get caught when you see them or hear about them but believe me, they will get caught.
I just hope that you remember that if it wasn't for the police you would never be safe. You say that you don't feel protected by the police. How safe would you be if there were no police to keep things in check. If there were no cops to make traffic stops do you think you would be able to survive the roads with drunk drivers and jerks who think they can drive how ever fast they want.
Heat, I agree, sometimes we get bored. Sometimes we start looking for anything that we can do to pull you over. This is unfortunatlly part of the job. There are also presures placed on us by higher ups to make stops and write tickets. Many city departments are forced to place quotas on their traffic tickets by the city officals who get money from the tickets. Many times we don't like to write tickets for pitty stuff like tail lights or the such but if we don't we get pressure put on us.
We don't just pull people over when we want. Leagally there must be a reasion, we call it probable cause to make a stop. Not PC can be anything from illegally tinted windows or tail lights out. This is done for several reasions. Like I said before. there is more of a chance that there will be a better stop when you are checking a sportier car or a young person then an older one. Believe me. I have had my shair of being pulled over when I was younger. I used to drive fast and hard in a red Toyota pick up with chrome and lights all over it. It is just part of the times. It know it sucks that you have to put up with it. We as officers are trying as hard as we can to single out who is the good guys and who are the bad guys but it really takes alot of understanding and help from the public.
Every time you go crazy on an officer and treat him or her like crap you are adding to that officer's illusion of the public. It goes the both ways.Don't try running, you will only give me a better story!

There is a solution to this...the only reason people speed is because 35 mph on a local road isnt gonna do you any good, UP THE SPEEDS, then u wont get speeders, for instance NJ made highways 65mph but ticket fines doubled...im talkin like up it 20 more but the penalty for speeding is like, being put in a stock, public stoning, or perhaps being placed in a burlap sac and being beaten with reeds...i dont like the fact i get pulled over because i look young, and stats show cops are more likely to pull over a car full of teenagers then a speeding female in their 50's. Its also proven that males are more likely to get pulled over than females, and you kno most of the time im not even speeding but they just want to "see your registration" or perhaps "check the adults liscense"(im still on a permit), stupid stuff like that, then they try to get u to admit you were wrong, like so how fast were u going back there? Dont worry the speed limit was 50mph...i was like o, i was doin 45, he then writes a ticket cuz it was a 40 zone, i cant believe cops can do that, this is florida cops, i dont kno about other states i can only speak for Pealm Beach County officers. There are alot of good cops though, my neighbor in NY was a NYC officer and died at the WTC...he was a good copComment

Believe me I know cops are under alot of stress. A friend of mine was a HWY patrol. He was married and had kids, went to church, played paintball from time to time. He shot and killed himself in September. They called is PDSS.
But listen to me. Because I am male my inshurance rates are up. They figure these rates bassed on tickets, accidents, blah blah blah. My rates are set higher because cops think they have something to prove? But that's not the end. Then because I'm young I get punished too? and then because I have a nice car I get punished? I could life with this if I at least saw some consistency.
So I shouldn't start driving till I'm 40, drive a beater rustbucket my whole life and keep a mechanic on hand for just incase something ever goes wrong and I don't have time to fix it?
I haven't been nailed for speeding in 2 years. I learned a while ago it just doesn't save that much time to risk a fine and end up late anyway, but I'm constantly being passed like I'm standing still. I drive normal, no tire squeelz no weaving nothing stupid no aggresive driving or stuff like that. If I were to die my hair white and add a few wrinkles to my face I would NEVER get pulled over.
I guess I'm just so irritaed because I feel like I've been singled out. Have I?Comment

This cop pulls over a lady and is about to write her a ticket. In a desperate attempt to avoid the ticket she offers the cop everything she can think of. "I'll give you $20.00," she says. The cop keeps writing. I'll donate to the policemen's ball, she says. The cop looks up and says "Ma'am policemen don't have balls. He then stands there for several seconds, is taken by uncontrollable laughter, and tears the ticket up.
This one time my Dad was riding with a client in his Porsche 911 Targa. They got pulled over, and the guy that was driving the Porsche starts talking to the officer about cars. And before you know it they are let go and have no ticket. Be nice to 'emI have no Sig.

Probably depends on your state, town, county etc. I know here in NY you do.Originally posted by vf-xx
Law question: Are bicycles to follow the same rules as cars? I got a written warning for riding (safely) agianst traffic once.
As for cops in general. Some are power abusing morons, but most do a good job. Remember they are here for a reason, and do more than you think.
