I have to agree with a lot of people. I wasn't too impressed with the ending. Basically the human resistance got nowhere except back to square one. I can't remember if it was already said but if Neo and Smith were oposites as in Neo=1 and Smith=-1 then when smith took over Neo 1-1=0 therefore canceling them both out and successfully deleting smith as well as neo from the matrix.

I dunno if that makes sense but that's what I got from when Neo learned that Smith was his oposiste and needed in order to balance out the equation. So there was no way for Neo kill Smith without killing himself or vice versa since the equation would then not be balanced.

The human resistance got more than back to square one. They forged a peace with the machines. People that want to be freed from the matrix will be, and the rest will act as copper tops for the machines. Neo gave his life to defeat Smith, this was part of the deal for peace. He saved the Matrix from Smith and in turn the machines stopped attacking Zion. There is not peace, and it cost both sides something.

I actually really liked the ending. It wasn't all happy happy joy joy. But there was a conclusion. There was no real twist at the end like Reloaded, but that's to be expected. It was the end of an era, and the begnining of another.

The humans got nothing and the machiens got what they wanted in the end. I disagree with your view there. Just based solely on the line at the end by the architect. Basically they know that the humans wont be happy with what they have forever and will eventually want more and will once again start a war with the machines anyhow and it will all be done over again

They now are at peace with the machines and can coexist on the planet with them. That’s hardly nothing.

But the whole idea is that they dont entirely destroy zion so that there are humans left to "rebuild"... if you recall. The peace will not exist, and the movie comes out and pretty much shows that the machines expect the peace not to last. I think you should rewatch it

The peace may or may not last. There is no definite yes or no. Col. Sanders(the Architect)mearly proposes a question.

Neo is dead....sorta. The Wackowski Bros. are big in Theology and so of course Neo=Messiah=Jesus. When the Oracle says to Sedi(SP?) that she'll see Neo again someday, she speaks of the Second coming of him(probably relating back to the fact the peace may or may not last, thus creating a new purpose for Neo)

Trinity is dead...and unfortunately, always will be.

For the time being, we can only use the truths we know. The Humans and Machines shall coexsist. Programs like the Oracle, Sarif, Sadi, the Merovengian(SP?), Persephone, Col. Sanders(who is actually just the digital embodiment of the Matrix self-entity) etc will exsist in the Machine world as they have for years. The people who wish to stay plugged in can stay as well. Those who wish to be unplugged my leave and add onto Zion, or possibly start colonys elsewhere on Earth. Since the Machines must no longer support millions of Sentinels, driller dealys, Agents, etc....the power demands will drop and thus, the form of Fusion they have been using for over a century will suffice from now on.

Anyone else notice the little quirk in the trainstation? Mobil....Limbo?

Also, like the Oracle was saying earlier....The matrix(and Col. Sanders) are in a battle with her to balance "the Equation". Neo and Smith are obviously complete opposites.
Point proof? After Smith makes a hardlink with the real world through Bane...Neo makes a hardlink with the Matrix via his own mind.
Regardless, Neo realizes this near the end of the fight and makes the choice to lose. When only Smith remains, the matrix...with it's own set of rules that nothing can break, balances the equation and destroys Smith from the inside out(Neo being the Direct Connection). Smith is destroyed, and Neo is reunited with Trinity.

Also, Anyone else find it neat(in an intruiging sense) that Trinity with killed by THREE metal rods?

or that Neos body on the flatbed thing at the end was in the same shape as Jesus Christ? or that Neos body also continues to shine, a possible reference to Matthew 5:14 "You are the light of the World..."?

              Food for thought.

My all in all opinion....? Great Movie. Loved it.

I just saw the movie today and looked at this thread. I was expecting a bunch of mindless "omg this movie sux0r" but I was pleasantly surprized with actual thought and intelligent things. Thats why AO rocks

                  THIS MOVIE SUX0RZ!!!

lol (Note smilies, but this movie was a bit disappointing... actually it was very disappointing)

There were so many cheesey points in this movie... Like all of those Trinity "i love you parts", they seem like she's reading the lines off Neo's forehead.

But, enough complaints. I figured that the ending was that the machines knew what Neo had to do to delete Smith so they were ready to transfer a delete command through Neo to kill Smith. The only thing is that Smith made the mistake of calling Neo by Neo, thus acknowleging the fact that Neo is Smith's opposite, allowing him to exist until the equation was balanced.

The end was a bit trippy though... Neo was glowing... like a PROGRAM or a MACHINE. Except that he was bursting like mad with light instead of being the normal light like that Chinese dude or the Oracle. Maybe the Neo is actually the delete command for Smith and is just disguised as a human. Once the machine overmind activated the deletion, Neo turned back into a program.

I really thing they could have cut out a lot of the parts in the movie though. Like most of the love scenes could have been shortened or cut out since WE KNOW THEY LOVE EACH OTHER DUE TO THE FACT THAT IT IS EMPHASIZED THROUGHOUT RELOADED. They also could have done a shorter job of the train station part also.

I liked the Dragonball Z/GT part though... FLY NEO FLY!!! BAM! WATER BUBBLE! BAM BAM! FLY! DESTROY! SUPER MOVE THAT SMASHES NEO INTO THE GROUND! Yep, that's Dragonball without the energy attacks. They even kept the impact energy wave too by using the rain effect. Creative, no... Entertaining, yes... Brings me back to 3th grade when I was watching cartoons like dragonball.

Overall I give it a rating of utter crap with a lot of good eye candy. There are too many holes, too many unnecessary scenes, too many questions left unanswered, and Keanu Reeves should never act again. Oh well, what was I going to expect?

Okay, maybe it wasn't utter crap, but it was crappy-ish. Nothing wrong with the ending IMO, it does the job fine. It's just that, at first thought, the plot is too thin and it takes far too much thinking to realize that plot actually has more than you think.

                  .

Funny I just did rewatch it. I think you missed the part about Zion being destroyed 5 previous times. In each of those cases the war continued. The oracle in this case decided to direct things slightly differently to see if she could help change things.

Sanders said "You played a dangerious game"

                    She responded "Change always is."
