What's so bad about the F word, it's just a word, no body get's hurt by it and it isn't degrading or derogitory. You can say some REALY bad or insulting things without using any swear words. I think all of the sexual inuendo would be much worse for younger viewers than the F-word. for christ sake, when they beep it out, you still know what they were going to say anyways, so why bother cencoring it?

I don't see what the big deal is. The shows are rated, and the parents have a duty to keep the children from seeing those things which they shouldn't.
It's not like they have never heard those things before. There is no way short of lock own to keep kids from not hearing it. In fact, I feel that we do more damage by sheltering others from it that by having them exposed to it. By sheltering them from things they become more of a "Forbidden Friut." I know that we are only talking about swearing, but i9 think the problem runs a little deeper.

Breg, you missed the point COMPLETELY. How could it be the parents fault in an incident such as this? Ok, its before 9 o'clock on a show that was rated TV-PG. Absolutely something decent enough for a small child to be watching... BUT, when Fox slips and lets something like this happen, how do you blame it on the parents? It's the networks fault, 100%.

And Lopy, you think of it too loosly... I don't care to have my young'ns around that sort of language or picking it up and using it at that early of a stage in life. I just hope that some of you change your perspectives when you become fathers.

FragTek, Breg hasn't missed the point..it is the networks fault but only in so far as an error was made...it happens...how many times has a touchline mic picked up "something" during a baseball/football/basketball game...is that the networks fault..technically yes but it happens. It isn't as if it happens all the time..in my country if a complaint is made and upheld a public appology and in some cases a fine is imposed. You could argue that this is now (to use a cliche) "the thin end of the wedge". But answer me this what is your view on the music videos and the performances on music shows by acts who rely on the early teen and in a lot of cases the pre teen audience for sales, do you think that their act is aimed at children? Certainly not judging by the dance moves and constant groping by support dancers plus the lack of clothing worn by the "acts".
Songs have "slipped by" a lot of the time...Barbie Girl by Aqua (ok an out and out pop song) but lyrically? It was porn...but it didn't get banned as the references flew straight over most peoples heads including the parents. That particular song may not have been a hit over there but I'm sure there have been similar ones. there is a lot in this world we can't control and as parents you DO have to be vigilent but use common sense, the parents who allow everything are asking for trouble down the line and it is the parents responsibilty NOT the networks as to blame another for your own shortcomings is way too easy...think of the court cases of child violence where the defense are using video games and videos as the root cause...wrong! Parents allowing access to such materials IS the cause. Ok that is quite a moral high ground for me to take but then it is the same as when a child is killed (under whatever circumstances)...they are always popular and good students...yeah right.

There is one thing you guys are missing. Fox is a Broadcast channel (ie. you can get it without cable). This station would fall under the FCC censorship rules. Comedy Central is a cable station and does not have to follow the same censorship rules. This is the reason why you see shows like Jack *** and South Park on cable station and not CBS, NBC, ABC, Fox, etc.

If you want to talk about a shock when it comes to broadcast TV. Flip on a TV in Germany at about 10pm

If you guys remember, Bono from U2 said something like "thats f--king brilliant" at the Golden Globes awards show.

There was a recent ruling by the FCC saying the f-word when used to describe or provide an exclamation to something is does not break any obscenity violations, but does when it's used in a sexual manner. I don't know the context of what this girl did it in but there's your explanation.

                  Link to ruling:

Sometimes the censors dont have anough time to react...my best geuss is they heard the words coming out of her mouth and freaked out. Anyone else remeber the flasher from Good Morning America?

FYI...Comedy central doesn't have to answer to the FCC, because it is cable, it doesnt go through the air, air waves cross state lines therefore they have to answer to the national government. As long as the cables do not cross the state lines cable companies are not regulated by the National government. The states however are allowed to regulate. Most dont though.

You guy's saying they should be punished are over reacting, IT'S A WORD. It's not hurting anyone. As long as it's used in an ok context it's not that bad anyway.

Kids are gonna hear it at school and at on the street and lots of other places. You can't stop that, hearing it once or twice on TV isn't gonna change them at all. Don't pee your pants and try to get the FOX exec's arrested. You can parent your kids however you want, but their are much worse things for your kids to be doing than swearing.

True but then the channels we pay for like that don't have commercials.when a movie is on we get to see it all with no interruptions

I was using that as an example...the Movie Straw Dogs would not be censored nor would Scum (english film about a Borstal prison), an out an out porn movie would not be aired...it may not make it right in your eyes but there are differences the world over...we have topless women in our newspapers and for years the only topshelf magazines that were legal in the UK if they came from the US they were reprinted with lots of black dots or stars in certain places and I for one would love to know the actual rules to a german show from the 80's called Tutti Frutti
