    State of the Union!

    Wow great speech!

I loved the line,"America does not need a permission slip to defend her interests!"

Bush has truly grown in this office. Even Dan Rather was saying how strong his speech was and how far the president had come!

Also, What were the Dems thinking? Nancy Pelosi is a horrid speaker. She seemed to have a smirk on her face while reading from a teleprompter. Daschle did fine and should have done the whole rebuttal himself.

It was a great speech, though that doesn't exactly translate to great laws / changes.

Edit: That line would have been much more potent if there was a smoking gun.

My dad owns a small buisness, Homewood Florist, and he really get's shafted by taxes these days. I think Bush's line went something like "small buisnesses today are more successful than they have been in nearly 20 years." Sheesh, my dad/employees pay hundreds of thousands in sales taxes and personal income taxes every year. He works his butt off (and I mean it) for our family yet he gets raped by taxes ever year.

Yeah, generally conservative tax cuts really only benefit the wealthy.

Yeah, I agree with you, but please cite examples or else it turns into "liberals are idiots" vs. "conservatives are nazis."

                Uhm, no!

The Child Tax Credit of $1000 each is a middle class tax-cut. The wealthy are not eligble for it. Also please realize that tax cuts don't matter for the wealthiest Americans because many of them pay the AMT(alternative Minimum Tax) which is unaffected by the tax cuts!

So please provide your proof or don't say it!

Give nancy Pelosi a break. It was her first national speech.

Better ones were Teddy Kennedy shaking his head like he had Parkinson's or Rep. Charlie Rangle asleep during the speech!

I promise, this is my only post on this thread.

The anti-bush (and pro-MASSIVE GOVERNMENT) crowd thinks that if someone who makes $2 million a year (and employes hundreds of people in his buisness) gets a $30,000 tax cut, that someone who makes $22,000/year should also get a $30,000 tax cut. Otherwise we're just making the rich richer on the backs of the poor.

Unfortunatly I missed the speech, but I got home just in time to catch almost an entire BBC world news dedicated to explaining how Bush is ruining the world, oh and lots of fun listening to Peter Jennings. Got to love unbiased reports.

Tell me where to find them cause each media organization has there own agenda.

I personally thought Bush's "permission slip" attitude is making this country look like a huge a-hole. I tend to be a issue's only type of guy and Bush hasn't hit anything for me as far as a re-election vote. Then again none of the Dem's have hit me either.
                      Sorry, I'm old

I'm not part of that group; I just believe that tax cuts should impact the lower class more.

                          I figure it this way.

Who do the lower income people work for? The people getting these tax breaks. They end up having more money to distribute to those who work for them. When companies have more money, everyone benefits. It trickles down to everyone.

When we're talking about a tax break for lower income, what does this really mean? Extra spare change. They make so little to begin with, a % of a little is a little. And seriously, nothing is keeping people from surviving... we have all these social programs for people to abuse.

I personally would rather companies to have more money, because then they can afford to produce more and hire more people. You can't do that if you're giving out hand outs to everyone.

Still, making things easier for those who have it easy doesn't seem right to me. I'm just saying that I believe people in lower classes should gain more than they do for the tax cuts.

I was kind of confused about the whole "Steroids in sports" thing. I mean, its kind of low on my list of pressing concerns for the country.
