So blue collar workers get the chance to work overtime, and make more money...thats terrible.

This same hatred of corporate america that you show is exactly what has been turned into policy in Europe. And guess what? The whole darn contintent hasn't created a single new job in the last 20 years, take away the computer boom and they have massive negative job growth (America, with all it's greed, has created tens of millions of new jobs in the same time).

And for the love of God will one of you liberals tell us where this profit money goes? Do CEOs bury it in their back yard? Even if they do NOTHING and stick all their millions in a bank, guess what? The bank invests the money...

Oh well then we can say it continued in spite of Clinton instead of because of him then.... Okey Dokey... It's your theory there not mine.
You're right. I didn't say anywhere that Clinton helped the economy. If I inferred it, I didn't mean to.

It is called the business cycle.

Enron did not put us into the recession. Greenspan put us into this recession and caused the bubble to burst. Greenspan raised interest rates too fast and cut off capital to the VCs and Dot Coms. Had he not raised the Fed Funds Rate and therefore Prime rate, the flow of capital to these companies would have dwindled and not been shut off. The sudden end to funding burst the bubble. Sure had the funding dwindled, you would have had a purging of the les profitable DotComs, but at a much slower pace. It would not have been so traumatic.

The tax cuts and tax advance checks did help increase consumer spending. Spending is the only thing that can get you out of a recession. Government Spending lifted us out of the Great Depression, but we can not afford projects of that magnitude today. So the consumers must pull us out of this one!

i never said it didn't work. i was just saying that miscue arguing that american greed is simply an assumption is silly, because it's what capitalism thrives on.

restola- i wouldn't assume that the majority of blue collar (and white collar) workers ENJOY working overtime. recent polls say that the majority of workers desire more time with their family, and wish they didn't feel like they HAD to work overtime to support their families. but who believes polls? i definitely don't blindly believe them, but it's pretty logical, so it should be taken into account.

also, let's go with the assumption that the CEOs DO pocket the money..which enron showed us to an extent. where does this money go? NOT american banks. swiss banks. let's not even get STARTED on switzerland. i'm not gonna pretend to know how swiss banks work, and neither should you. it's pretty safe to assume that the swiss banks don't do much with the money outside of switzerland, if anything at all, besides collect interest and take some off the top for keeping it there.

lol...another stereotype you heard on television...all dirty money goes to swiss banks.

Plus you're assuming they are hiding the money. Plus they AREN'T just banking the money, its getting invested all over the place, including back into the company (especially in the case of small buisnesses).

Oh and feel free to start backing up anything you stated with facts if you think I'm picking on you for no reason. I don't believe a thing you've tried to prove with your opinions and whatever TV and your parents have told you. I've stated one fact, which I can back up (zero jobs created in europe). Give facts a chance.

http://money.canoe.ca/News/2003/12/04/277087-cp.html However, Goldin's report suggests UBS AG - a major Swiss bank - was unaware that its deals with Enron were being used to help the energy trader in a huge accounting fraud.

Swiss bank accounts were up by an unexpected $8 trillion in on shore and off shore accounts

so a swiss bank bought enron for *NO UPFRONT CASH*...but you're right, this kind of thing is just the kind of thing you hear on television...

No kidding! See... we both assume greed or the pursuit of more money. However, you say that they will pocket it where I say that a really greedy person would use that to make MORE money.

And so they pocket it. Where do they put it? Under their beds? No, they put it in banks and investments. And MORE money is generated. People literally have to bury their money in the backyard for it to not produce more money.

This reminds me of a story Jesus told in the Bible. It basically was a lord of the manner left and gave each to his abilities. One servant was left 10 talents, one five, and one two. THe one with 10 made it work and grew it to 10, the one with 5 doubled it through trading, and the one with 2 buried it into the ground. When the master returned he rewarded the first two. THe third told the master you do not sow what you reap so I buried it. THe master chded him saying you did not even put it into the bank so as to return me money with interest. The master then took the two talents from him and gave it to the one with 20.

Take a lesson from that. WWJD.

This is one of my favorite movie quotes from Real Genius: "You're laborers. You're supposed to be laboring. That's what you get for not having an education." - Jerry Hathaway.

What we are talking about is taking away from those who know how to best invest money, and giving it those with high school diplomas at best. WHY? This is why: There are a lot of these people and they like to be fooled into thinking that they are actually getting more by redistributing wealth. It's a sexy idea to try to sell if you want to be elected by the masses - and this is the only reason why it is even brought up and continues to thrive. It's ridiculous.

well...we gotta look at why not everyone goes to college. sure, many are lazy. but what about those who aren't? scholarships are becoming more and more of a joke, plus the price of college is ridiculous....these could add to the problem, right?

Anyone who wants to go to college can go to college.

I received no grants, no scholarships. I got federal loans. I am in debt approximately $20,000. I am paying for this. My parents did not pay anything for my school or transportation. I worked all through college to pay for books, gas, transportation... etc. That is why it took me 5 years instead of 4. And I am still broke as hell right now, but that was the sacrifice I was willing to make... an investment in my future.

Now what is everyone else's excuse?

And, if you are healthy you can join the military and go to school with the G.I. Bill and what not. Why are people not taking advantage of this? There are many ways to go to college.

even with workers working more OT the money to pay for that OT has to come from somewhere. i know one local business that really enjoys it when i get OT. most of you prolly know one of these stores too.
